摘要： An endoscopic instrument is described having a fluid chamber, a cannula, a shell, a first locking mechanism, and a probe with a second locking mechanism. The fluid chamber has proximal and distal ends. The hollow cannula is coupled to the distal end of the fluid chamber. The port is located at the proximal end of the fluid chamber. The shell houses the fluid chamber, the port, and the first locking mechanism. The probe extends through the port, through the fluid chamber, and through the hollow cannula. In a first fully inserted position, the distal end of the probe extends past the distal end of the cannula. When the probe is partially withdrawn from the shell, the first locking means releasingly engages the second locking means on the probe. Different spring loaded mechanism are described, including one mechanism which is overcome by pulling on the handle of the probe, and another mechanism which requires an active release mechanism.

摘要： An endoscopic multiple sample bioptome includes a hollow outer member and an axially displaceable inner member extending therethrough. The proximal ends of the outer and inner members are coupled to an actuator for axially displacing one relative to the other. The distal end of the outer member is coupled to one of a cylinder having a sharp distal edge and a jaw assembly, while the distal end of the inner member is coupled to the other. The jaw assembly includes a pair of opposed, preferably toothed jaw cups each of which is coupled by a resilient arm to a base member. The arms are bent to urge the jaws away from each other. The base member is mounted inside the cylinder and axial movement of the jaw assembly and cylinder relative to each other draws the arms into the cylinder and brings the jaw cups together in a biting action. When the outer member is coupled to the jaw assembly and the inner member is coupled to the cylinder, the distal end of the inner member is preferably coupled to the cylinder by a bent end which is welded to a hole in the cylinder wall. One of the jaws is preferably larger and has a pair of proximal wings. The wings and an upper edge portion of the larger jaw are bent radially inward and enter the smaller jaw when the jaws are closed.

摘要： An endoscopic surgical instrument includes a proximal handle with a distally extending lever actuator. The handle and lever actuator are coupled by a tube and push rod to a pair of distal end effectors. The proximal end of the tube is mounted in a bushing having a flange which is freely rotatable within a flange receiving recess in the handle. The proximal end of the push rod extends proximally beyond the bushing and is coupled to the lever actuator by a ball and set screw coupling. The lever actuator preferably extends at least four inches distally from the proximal end of the handle and includes a finger ring near its distal end. The tube is preferably provided with a ferrule immediately distal of the handle for rotating the tube and push rod about the longitudinal axis of the instrument. The ferrule is preferably provided with a distal extension having an annular notch for locking engagement inside another endoscopic instrument. The lever actuator imparts a force to the end effectors which is magnified relative to the force applied to the actuator. The distal extension of the lever actuator and the finger ring allow the instrument to be operated with one finger while the instrument is grasped by the ferrule or mounted inside another endoscopic instrument.

摘要： An end effector assembly for an endoscopic instrument includes first and second end effectors, a screw and optionally a washer. The end effectors have arms which are biased away from each other. The screw has a threaded portion dimensioned to engage the distal end of the endoscopic instrument and a head portion with a pair of arm receiving grooves. In a presently preferred embodiment, the washer extends over arms of the end effectors which pass through grooves in the head of the screw. In this manner, the arms of the end effectors are captured between the screw and the washer. The grooves are preferably provided with upstanding pins which engage mounting holes in the arms of the end effectors.

摘要： An endoscopic instrument is provided with a hollow tube, first and second end effectors coupled to the hollow tube and having arms biased away from each other, a cylindrical member slidably disposed over the hollow tube, a push/pull wire extending through the tube, a handle assembly coupled to the push/pull wire and the hollow tube, and a disk segment connected to the push/pull wire and connected to the cylindrical member by a crimp in the cylindrical member. When the handle assembly is actuated, the push/pull wire moves the disk segment and hence the cylindrical member relative to the end effectors and causes the cylindrical member to ride over the arms of the end effectors, thereby forcing the end effectors closed or permitting them to open. Preferably, the disk segment has two curved sides which are coupled to the cylindrical member by crimping, and two substantially parallel sides which provide room for the arms of the end effectors so that the disk segment can move relative to the end effectors. The disk segment also includes a central bore for receiving the push/pull wire.

摘要： An end effector assembly for an endoscopic instrument includes first and second end effectors, a screw, and optionally a washer. The end effectors have arms which are biased away from each other. The screw has a threaded portion dimensioned to engage the distal end of the endoscopic instrument and a head portion with a pair of arm receiving grooves. In a presently preferred embodiment, the washer extends over the arms of the end effectors which pass through grooves in the head of the screw. In this manner, the arms of the end effectors are captured between the screw and the washer. The grooves are preferably provided with upstanding pins which engage mounting holes in the arms of the end effectors. Where the endoscopic instrument is a biopsy forceps type instrument having a long coil, the threaded portion of the screw mates naturally with the distal end of the coil, and the end effectors, which are normally biased away from each other, are closed by a cylinder which is moved over the arms of the end effectors. Where the endoscopic instrument is a laparoscopic type instrument, an inner rod of the instrument is provided with threads to receive the screw, and the end effectors are closed either by the outer tube of the instrument which is slid over the arms of the end effectors, or by pulling the inner rod into the outer tube.
