摘要: This invention relates generally to monitoring systems and more particularly concerns devices and systems used to monitor patients the presence and absence of a patient from a bed, chair, etc. The preferred environment in which the instant invention would be used would be a hospital or other care giving facility, wherein patients who are at risk of falling might left unattended while they are seated or lying. According to a first aspect of the instant invention, a microprocessor-based patient monitor is disclosed which includes a loudspeaker that emits alarms synthesized by the microprocessor. The microprocessor synthesizes any one of multiple alarm sounds under software control and activates and deactivates the alarm in response to the electronic signals received from an attached sensor and a user interface.

摘要: This invention relates generally to monitoring systems and more particularly concerns devices and systems used to monitor patients lying in hospital beds or in other care giving environments. According to a first aspect of the instant invention, a microprocessor based patient monitor is disclosed which includes a loudspeaker driven by a power amplifier responsive to an input signal derived from a programmable volume control. The microprocessor synthesizes any one of multiple alarm sounds under software control, operates the programmable volume control of the alarm system and activates and deactivates the alarm in response to the electronic signals received from the sensor and a user interface. An electrically erasable programmable read-only memory accessible by the processor stores data which can be modified to tailor the operations of the monitor to suit a variety of different needs. According to still another aspect of the instant invention, a microprocessor-based patient monitor is disclosed which has a personality that is defined by software that is resident in modifiable nonvolatile memory, which software can thus be altered to change the programmed responses of the monitor. Finally, a software and hardware system is provided for reading information from and writing information to modifiable nonvolatile RAM within a microprocessor-based patient monitor. This information might be parameter settings, data values, or computer instructions.

In one exemplary implementation, there is provided a method of locating the source of an acoustic event by receiving/processing information from at least three sensors aerially deployed across an area to be monitored, wherein each of the at sensors has a microphone for detecting the acoustic event and a known location, the at least three aerial deployed sensors are networked, and time of arrival processing of the acoustic event is performed. In further exemplary implementations, an approximate location of the source of the acoustic event may be determined as a function of arrival time and sensor location data.

摘要: A transformerless, high power xenon power supply for providing a DC voltage to a high wattage xenon bulb. The power supply includes: a first DC power supply which accepts incoming AC power and provides a first DC output, the first DC power supply having a first capacitor for filtering the voltage at the first DC output; a current path having an inductor, a controllable switch for controlling the electrical current flowing through the inductor, and a second capacitor for filtering the voltage at an output of the current path; and a pulse width modulator having an output in communication with the controllable switch. The output of the current path is not electrically isolated from the incoming AC power. The inventive power supply may offer significant reductions in size, weight, and cost over designs having a transformer.

摘要: An upper body exercise apparatus to assist an exerciser to do chin-ups and dips. The apparatus includes a frame having a base, a platform parallel to the base for the exerciser to stand on, and chin-up handles and dip handles extending from the frame. A motive device oscillates the platform vertically between a lower position and an upper position while maintaining the platform parallel to the base. Angular displacement of the platform is prevented by attaching the platform to a guide member which permits the platform to travel vertically along the device frameposts but does not permit the platform to travel horizontally relative to the frameposts. The guide members can comprise a set of rollers or collars. The system further includes a control and monitor whereby the force is controlled and the oscillation of the platform is monitored.
