Abstract:
A method and system for facilitating the detection of DTMF tones is disclosed. The method is based on detecting two tones using a modified nonuniform discrete Fourier transform that includes a phase correction term for each DTMF tone and harmonic. The disclosed method is employed by a DTMF detector that includes a sampling module, a computation module, an analysis module, and a decode module. The sampling module samples an input signal from a communication network at a rate sufficient to avoid data loss. The sample signal is then placed through a modified DFT which is more precise than filters or analog devices, particularly those utilizing a Goertzel algorithm. The computation module implements a fast recursive algorithm for completing the necessary computations. The analysis module checks for the present of energy level peaks at the DTMF tones and their harmonics. Once a DTMF signal is verified to contain a DTMF tone, the decode module transmits the, number, letter, or symbol to an interface.
Abstract:
A communication system embodying the invention has a communication channel with at least two ends, one end of the channel being connected to a transmission device with relatively limited computational capacity and an other end of the channel being connected to a computer having relatively large computational capacity. The transmission device includes a signal source node; a set of M−1 delay buffers connected in series and defining a set of M progressively delayed signal nodes, M being a positive integer, one end of the series of M delay buffers being connected to the signal source node; a set of M parallel downsampling operators connected to the M progressively delayed signal nodes; and, a parallel-to-serial converter having M parallel inputs and a single serial output, the M parallel inputs being connected to the outputs of the M parallel downsampling operators and the single serial output being coupled to the one end of the communication channel. A set of M parallel filter coefficient multipliers having respective inputs and outputs and corresponding to the respective coefficients Hi(z−1) of an anti-aliasing filter H(z)=&Sgr;i=0M−1z−iHi(z−M) is implemented in the computer to minimize the computational requirements for the transmission device to simple tasks.
Abstract:
A method and system for performing speech recognition for an internet appliance using a remotely located speech recognition application. The invention includes an internet appliance that is connected through a network with either a stand-alone computer or a server computer located at the Internet Service Provider. Verbal commands directed to an internet appliance are received as analog signals and converted to digital signals. The digital signals are remotely translated into a set of instructions by a dedicated hardware device or a software program that operates a speech recognition application at either a stand-alone computer or server computer located at an Internet Service Provider in a form recognizable by the internet appliance. The internet appliance receives and executes the translated instructions.
Abstract:
A novel approach for determining an amount to be billed to a customer for the use of resources is based upon usage data and value data. The usage data indicates usage, by the customer, of a set of one or more resources during a specified period of time. The set of one or more resources may be dynamically selected and de-selected from a plurality of resources at any time. For example, the set of one or more resources may comprise a VSF as described herein. The value data indicates generally value provided by each resource from the set of one or more resources used during the specified period of time. The value provided by each resource may be expressed in service units per unit time and a charge may be applied for each service unit consumed during a specified period of time. Example billing schemes to which the approach is applicable include, without limitation, basic billing, flex billing, event flex billing and open flex billing.
Abstract:
A porcine collagen film is made from an extrudable collagen gel. The porcine collagen is essentially sow collagen. The ratio of collagen to fat is usually above 10:1, for example in the range 25:1 to 50:1.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus is disclosed for determining interconnections of network devices. The network devices are connected together based on a set of general guidelines. A first network device is associated with a power state that is changed. Whether an alteration occurs at a second network device in response to the change in power state of the first network device is identified and stored. The changing of the power state of the first network device may be in response to a third network device and may be performed via a power controller. The alteration at the second network device may be a link becoming hot or the raising of a trap that is set at a switch. Errors are identified by comparing whether an alteration is identified to information in a database. Different types of interconnections may be determined in a series of phases by testing different types of devices.
Abstract:
A seat belt retractor comprising: a first and a second energy absorption mechanism which are triggered into lock positions once a sensor for detecting a vehicle characteristic initiates. The second energy absorption mechanism can be placed in a locked position by the movement of the first energy absorption mechanism being locked into a position by a locking mechanism. The second energy absorption mechanism can also deactivated by a controller. The energy absorbing mechanisms can be a torsion bar and a pre-bent member.
