The invention provides a novel and improved room temperature curable organopolysiloxane composition which is very stable over a long period of time if stored under an anhydrous condition but readily curable on exposure to moisture-containing atmosphere without producing no condensation products having toxicity, unpleasant odor or corrosiveness. The composition comprises, as the main component, an organopolysiloxane having at least three alkenyloxy groups bonded to the silicon atom or atoms in the organopolysiloxane molecule through a silhydrocarbylene linkage, e.g. silethylene linkage, and a curing accelerator.

The invention discloses a novel class of organosilane compounds containing 1 to 3 alkenyloxy groups directly bonded to the silicon atom and a 3,4-epoxycyclohexyl-substituted alkyl group bonded to the silicon atom. The compound is prepared by the reaction of 1-vinyl-3,4-epoxycyclohexane and a hydrogen alkenyloxy silane and useful as a coupling agent or an adhesion-improving agent.

The room temperature-curable (RTV) organopolysiloxane composition of the invention comprises, in addition to the conventional components of a diorganopolysiloxane terminated at both molecular chain ends each with a silanolic hydroxy group, a hydrolyzable organosilicon compound having two or more hydrolyzable groups in a molecule and a filler, an organosilicon-modified polyoxyalkylene compound, of which the organosilicon-containing terminal groups have at least one hydrolyzable group so as to pertain to the crosslinking reaction in its part. By virtue of this unique additive component, the composition is quite free from the disadvantage of sagging when the composition is applied to building works and the like and still retains excellent adhesive properties to the substrate surface in contrast to the difficulty in the conventional RTV compositions in which reducing of the phenomenon of sagging and retention of the strong adhesive strength are hardly compatible.

The present invention provides a novel room temperature-curable composition based on a polyoxyalkylene polyether, e.g. polyoxypropylene, admixed with a curing agent which is very stable when kept in a dry atmosphere or in a hermetically sealed condition but is readily cured when exposed to atmospheric air containing moisture into a rubber-like elastomer. The polyoxyalkylene polyether is terminated at both molecular chain ends with organosilyl groups having alkenyloxy groups bonded to the silicon atoms and can be prepared by the addition reaction of an allyl-terminated polyoxyalkylene polyether with an organosilane or organopolysiloxane compound having at least one silicon-bonded hydrogen atom and at least one silicon-bonded alkenyloxy group in a molecule in the presence of a platinum catalyst.

The invention provides a novel class of organosilicon compounds which are hydrogenalkenyloxysilanes represented by the general formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are each a hydrogen atom or a monovalent hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and n is a number of zero, 1 or 2. The silane compounds are readily obtained by the dehydrochlorination reaction between a corresponding hydrogen-containing chlorosilane compound and an .alpha., .beta.-unsaturated aldehyde compound or a ketone compound in the presence of an acid acceptor. The compounds are useful as a modifying agent in the silicone technology and also serve as a curing agent.

The invention provides a novel class of organosilicon compounds useful as a curing agent in a room temperature curable organopolysiloxane composition, which is represented by the general structural formulaR.sub.2 CH--CR.dbd.C(OR)--O--Si(R.sup.1).sub.3-m (O--CR.dbd.CH--R).sub.m,in which each R is a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon group independently from the others, R.sup.1, if any, is a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon group and the suffix m is 2 or 3. The compound can readily be synthesized by the reaction of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated ester compound represented by the general formulaR.sub.2 C.dbd.CR--CO--OR,and an alkenyloxy-containing silane compound represented by the general formulaHSi(R.sup.1).sub.3-m (O--CR.dbd.CH--R).sub.m,in which R.sup.1, R and m each have the meaning as defined above, in the presence of a rhodium compound as a catalyst. The room temperature curable composition is formulated with (a) 100 parts by weight of a diorganopolysiloxane terminated at both molecular chain ends each with a silanolic hydroxy group and having a viscosity in the range from 100 to 1,000,000 centistokes at 25.degree. The invention provides a novel cyclic organopolysiloxane compound represented by the general formula ##STR1## in which the groups denoted by R, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each typically a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, m is zero, 1, 2 or 3 and n is 2, 3 or 4 with the proviso that m+n is typically 4. A method for the preparation of the compound is disclosed. The inventive compound is useful as a crosslinking agent of a diorganopolysiloxane terminated at both molecular chain ends each with a silanolic hydroxy group so as to give a room temperature-curable silicone rubber composition free from the problem of emission of toxic or corrosive gases as a byproduct of the crosslinking reaction.

A novel room temperature-curable composition is provided by the invention, of which the base polymer is a polyoxyalkylene polyether terminated at both chain ends with silanolic hydroxy groups. The composition comprises 100 parts by weight of the above silanol-terminated polyoxyalkylene polyether and 1 to 30 parts by weight of an organosilane or organopolysiloxane having, in a molecule, at least two hydrolyzable groups bonded to the silicon atoms which serves as a crosslinking agent. The composition can be stored for a long period of time when kept with exclusion of atmospheric moisture and, when exposed to the atmosphere, is rapidly cured into a rubbery elastomer having good mechanical properties. Tack-free drying of the composition is accelerated when an alkenyloxy-containing silane is used as the above-mentioned silane having hydrolyzable groups in combination with a guanidyl-containing organosilicon compound.
