摘要: A method for manufacturing a thin film solar cell involves applying an inductively-coupled-plasma during the deposition of selenium. A precursor thin film is formed. The precursor thin film can include copper, indium, and gallium. The inductively-coupled-plasma is applied to the selenium as the selenium is deposited into the precursor thin film to produce the thin film. The selenium is deposited into precursor thin film by evaporation, sputtering, or using a reactive gas. An inert gas is used as a carry and discharge gas. The precursor thin film and the selenium are deposited using a deposition system. The deposition system includes an inductively-coupled-plasma device. The inductively-coupled-plasma device includes a quartz plate, a plasma discharge coil, and an inlet system. The deposition can be an in-line system, a roll-to-roll system, or a hybrid system.

摘要: The present invention provides a line of optical interleavers in which a novel beam-swapping element is utilized. The beam-swapping element of the present invention provides an effective and inexpensive alternative to polarization rotators and birefrigent elements employed in the prior art optical interleavers, hence rendering a simple and low-cost assembly to the optical interleavers of the present invention. The optical interleavers of the present invention further advantageously exploit a combination of two wavelength filters to cancel out wavelength-filter-induced-dispersion. Efforts are also painstakingly made in the optical interleavers of the present invention to substantially minimize other dispersion effects. As such, the optical interleavers of the present invention constitute the first kind in the art in which various dispersion effects are substantially minimized. Such characteristics would be highly desirable in fiber-optic networks. The optical interleavers of the present invention can be advantageously configured as multiplexers, de-multiplexers, or routers.

摘要: An optical depolarizer includes a birefringent block, a reflector coupled to the block, a first input port for providing polarized light to the block and an output port configured to receive polarized light from the block. The depolarizer optionally includes a non-reciprocal combination-device having a principal direction and including a first birefringent wedge, a second birefringent wedge, and a non-reciprocal rotating element. The non-reciprocal rotating element can be a Faraday rotator. The birefringent block can be optically coupled to the non-reciprocal combinatoin device. The optical depolarizer can include a lens that is optically coupled to the first wedge. The optical depolarizer can include a capillary for holding at least a PM optical fiber and an output optical fiber.

摘要: An optical system provides reflection-type isolation, and may include variable optical attenuation and/or a tap monitor. The optical system may include an optical isolator with a beam splitter such as a walk-off plate, a focusing element such as a GRIN lens, a combiner comprising two birefringent wedges and a non-reciprocal rotating device such as a Faraday rotator, a compensation device, and a reflector. The Faraday rotator may be variable to provide variable attenuation. The reflector may be a partial reflector to provide a tap monitor. The optical system is configured so that light transmitted into the optical isolator through the input fiber may be transmitted out of the optical isolator through the output fiber, but light transmitted into the optical isolator through the output fiber is generally not transmitted out of the optical isolator through the input fiber.

摘要: The tunable wavelength division multiplexer is disclosed. The wavelength division multiplexer includes a fiber, a holder, a filter, and an isolator. The fiber carries an optical signal that includes a plurality of channels. The holder has and end and an axis. The holder receives the first fiber in an aperture such that the first fiber is separated from the axis by a distance. The distance is selected to tune the first angle of incidence so that the filter transmits a portion of the optical signal centered around at least one particular wavelength. The optical signal from the fiber impacts the filter at a first angle of incidence. The filter transmits a portion of the optical signal centered around at least one particular wavelength. The isolator is optically coupled with the filter and prevents a first portion of the portion of optical signal transmitted by the filter from returning to the first fiber. Thus, not only is the filter tunable, but because of the presence of the isolator, back reflections to the first fiber are also reduced.

The third fiber is for receiving the first filtered optical signal. The fourth optical fiber is for receiving the second filtered optical signal.

摘要: An improved optical circulator device transfers light from a first optical fiber to a second optical fiber, and from the second fiber to a third optical fiber. The device comprises reciprocal and non-reciprocal polarization rotators, birefringent beam splitters and combiners, and a birefringent walk-off element. The invention also contains a polarization-dependent light bending device comprising two tapered birefringent plates. The light bending device compensates for an angle between a first light beam emanating from the first fiber and a second light beam exiting through the third fiber. The existence of this angle allows the first and third fibers to be coupled to the light beams using a single lens.
