An input signal for controlling a television power supply has "power-on" and "power-off" signal states. When the input signal is in the "power-on" state, it couples a clock signal to a primary winding of a transformer causing an alternating current voltage that is conductively isolated from the input signal to be developed across a secondary winding of the transformer. When the input signal is in the "power-off" state, it decouples the clock signal from the primary winding so that no alternating current voltage is developed across the secondary winding. The signal across the secondary winding is demodulated in a demodulator that produces a control signal that is conductively isolated from the input signal. The control signal is coupled to a regulator of the power supply. A power-on state of the control signal occurs when the alternating current voltage is developed at the secondary winding terminal. A power-off state of the control signal occurs when the alternating current voltage is absent.

A television receiver incorporates synchronizing circuitry which provides different synchronizing characteristics to accommodate different program sources. Illustratively, for receivers having vertical countdown circuits, normal broadcast signal reception causes the vertical synchronizing window to be narrow and the AFC circuits to operate normally. When the video signals originate from a nonbroadcast source, such as a video tape recorder or a video disc player, the synchronizing window is caused to be wide and the AFC circuit speed is increased. The appropriate receiver synchronizing characteristic is selected in response to the selected channel input.

A capacitor is connected between coil of the degaussing relay and the source of energizing voltage. Application of the energizing voltage to the relay coil energizes the relay and initiates degaussing of the cathode ray tube of the video display apparatus, and also causes the capacitor to begin charging. As the capacitor becomes charged, the degaussing relay becomes deenergized, thereby terminating degaussing current flow. The capacitor charging time constant is selected to allow sufficient time for degaussing to occur before deenergization of the degaussing relay.

Under normal operation, the AFPC loop generates the trigger pulses based on a synchronized phase relationship with sampled flyback pulses. During receiver start-up, the flyback pulses are not present and no trigger pulses are generated. The turn on circuit provides auxiliary pulses which occur later in time than the normal occurrence of the trigger pulses. Means are provided for applying the auxiliary pulses to the horizontal deflection circuit only in the absence of normal trigger pulses.

The ramp generator has an output coupled to an integrating circuit for generating a parabolic shaped signal. The ramp generator and ramp integrator are reset at a horizontal rate by reset pulses of differing duration. The different duration of reset pulses results in the parabolic signal having regions of non-parabolic shape. The parabolic shaped signal is coupled to an input of the multiplying circuit. A control circuit is coupled to the parabolic shaped signal for maintaining a peak amplitude thereof by controllable coupling to the ramp generator. A control loop is coupled to the integrator for controlling an integrator input bias current to generate the parabolic shaped signal at a predetermined time interval.
