摘要： There is provided a system for a signal transfer between a VSB broadcast reception chip and an enhanced data processing chip in an E8-VSB reception system compatible with an ATSC VSB reception system of a related art. The system includes a VSB receiver and an E8-VSB data processor. The VSB receiver converts a received broadcast signal of a predetermined channel into a digital baseband signal having a period of a first symbol clock, performs a channel equalizing, a noise removal, and an error correction, and outputs error-corrected data and a synchronization signal with an N times faster speed than the first symbol clock. The E8-VSB data processor receives the first symbol clock and a second symbol clock N times faster than the first symbol clock from the VSB receiver, extracts only enhanced data from the data depending on a synchronization signal outputted in synchronization with the second symbol clock, and performs an E8-VSB decoding and error correction.

The second frame decoder forms second enhanced data frames, encodes each data frame for error correction, forms a second super frame by combining the encoded second frames, and interleaves the second super frame. The frame multiplexer multiplexes the interleaved first and second enhanced data frames.

摘要： A DTV receiver includes a tuner, a demodulator, a known sequence detector, and a frequency domain equalizer. The tuner initially receives a broadcast signal including valid data in which a known data sequence is periodically repeated. The demodulator demodulates the broadcast signal, and the known sequence detector detects the known data sequence from the demodulated signal. The frequency domain equalizer compensates channel distortion of the demodulated broadcast signal in a frequency domain using the detected known data sequence. In addition, the DTV receiver may further include a time domain equalizer which compensates channel distortion of the time domain signal, or a noise canceller which removes a predicted noise from the time domain signal.

摘要： A digital television (DTV) transmitter/receiver and a method of processing data in the DTV transmitter/receiver are disclosed. In the DTV transmitter, a pre-processor pre-processes the enhanced data by coding the enhanced data for forward error correction (FEC) and expanding the FEC-coded enhanced data. A data formatter generates enhanced data packets including the pre-processed enhanced data and inserts known data to at least one of the enhanced data packets. A first multiplexer multiplexes the enhanced data packets with main data packets including the main data. And, an RS encoder RS-codes the multiplexed main and enhanced data packets, the RS encoder adding systematic parity data to each main data packet and adding RS parity place holders to each enhanced data packet. Herein, the RS encoder may insert non-systematic RS parity data or null data into the RS parity place holders included in each enhanced data packet.

摘要： A DTV receiver includes a tuner, a demodulator, a channel equalizer, a sequence detector, and a burst controller. The tuner receives a DTV signal having main data and at least one burst of enhanced data. The demodulator demodulates the DTV signal by performing carrier and time recovery and the channel equalizer equalizes the demodulated signal. The sequence detector detects one or more known data sequences from any one of the received signal and the demodulated signal. The demodulator and the channel equalizer use the detected known data sequences when performing the carrier and timing recover and the channel-equalization, respectively. Lastly, the burst controller supplies power to the tuner, the demodulator, the channel equalizer, and the data detector only during a burst time for each burst of enhanced data for efficient power consumption.

The method of processing known data in a digital television (DTV) transmitter includes generating a known data sequence, trellis-encoding the known data sequence, the trellis-encoded known data sequence having upper, middle, and lower bits, wherein at least one of the upper, middle, and lower bits has an m-sequence property, and mapping the trellis-encoded known data sequence into one of 2-level, 4-level, and 8-level data sequences, wherein the mapped data sequence has substantially an m-sequence property, wherein a data sequence has an m-sequence property when a peak value among auto-correlation values of the data sequence having a length of N is 1 and all the off-peak auto-correlation values are −1/N.
