A catalyst for methanation of carbon dioxide, a method of preparing the catalyst, and a method of hydrogenating carbon dioxide in the presence of the catalyst in a fixed bed reactor are disclosed. The catalyst is formed by mixing ash from a biomass power plant with a nickel compound and calcining the resulting mixture. The catalyst formed by calcination includes between 2 and 20 wt. % of nickel supported on ash from combusting biomass.

A method for converting carbon dioxide in flue gas into natural gas using dump energy. The method includes: 1) transforming and rectifying a voltage of dump energy generated from a renewable energy plant, introducing the voltage-transformed and rectified dump energy into an electrolyte solution to electrolyze water therein to yield H2 and O2; 2) purifying industrial flue gas to separate CO2 therein and purifying CO2; 3) transporting H2 generated and CO2 to a synthesis equipment, allowing a methanation reaction between H2 and CO2 to happen to yield a high-temperature mixed gas with main ingredients of CH4 and water vapor; 4) employing the high-temperature mixed gas to conduct indirect heat exchange with process water to yield superheated water vapor; 5) delivering the superheated water vapor to a turbine to generate electric energy, and returning the electric energy to step 1); and 6) condensing and drying the mixed gas.

The metal active component is dispersed in the amphiphilic ionic liquid in the form of stable colloid. The colloid is spherical and has a particle size of between 0.5 and 20 nm. The metal active component includes a first metal active component and a second metal active component. The first metal active component includes nickel. The second metal active component is selected from the group consisting of lanthanum, cerium, molybdenum, ruthenium, ytterbium, rhodium, palladium, platinum, potassium, magnesium, or a mixture thereof. The molar ratio of the first metal active component to the second metal active component is between 10:0.1 and 10:2.
