There is provided a glass-ceramic composite electrolyte including a medium containing glass-ceramic powder impregnated with a non-aqueous electrolytic solution. There is also provided a lithium secondary cell having a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a separator in which the separator includes the above described composite electrolyte. The glass-ceramic powder consists of grains having an average grain diameter of 20 &mgr;m or below (calculated on the basis of volume), a maximum grain diameter of 44 &mgr;m or below and lithium ion conductivity of 1×10−4S·cm−1 or over. The glass-ceramic composite electrolyte has thickness of 100 &mgr;m or below and lithium ion conductivity of 1×10−5S·cm−1 or over.

The glass-ceramics have an average linear thermal expansion coefficient within a range from +6×10−7/° C. to +35×10−7/° C., 80% transmittance wavelength (T80) of 700 nm or below internal transmittance of 75% or over at light wavelength of 1550 nm, heat resisting temperature of 800° C. or over and Young's modulus of 90 GPa or over. The glass-ceramics comprise SiO2, Al2O3, MgO, CaO, BaO, ZnO, Li2O, TiO2 and ZrO2 and contain β-quartz or β-quartz solid solution as a predominant crystal phase.

A speed change gear system of the planetary type suited for applications to fluid couplings utilized upon automotive vehicles includes at least first, second, and third planetary gear sets suitably interposed between an input shaft and an output shaft, first and second clutches, and first, second, and third braking means. The first planetary gear set may include a first sun gear, a first planetary gear engaged therewith, a second planetary gear engaged with the first planetary gear, a first ring gear enmeshed with the second planetary gear, and a first carrier rotatably supporting the first and second planetary gears, while the second planetary gear set may include a second sun gear drivingly coupled to the first carrier, a third planetary gear engaged with the second sun gear, a second ring enmeshed with the third planetary gear, and a second carrier rotatably supporting the third planetary gear, and the third planetary gear set may include a third sun gear drivingly coupled to the first sun gear and the second ring gear, a fourth planetary gear interengaged with the third sun gear, a third ring gear enmeshed with the fourth planetary gear, and a third carrier rotatably supporting the fourth planetary gear and drivingly coupled to the second carrier and to the output shaft.
