    摘要: The switch device includes first and second cavities, a passage extending between the cavities, a conductive liquid located in the passage and movable therein, a conductive path that includes the conductive liquid, an actuating liquid enclosed in each of the first and second cavities and covering the inner surfaces thereof and an actuating gas enclosed in each of the first and second cavities and existing as a bubble therein. At least one of the cavities includes a constriction element shaped to constrain the expansion of the actuating gas bubble in the cavity. This limits expulsion of the actuating liquid into the passage and movement of the conductive liquid along the passage.

    摘要: An electrical contact breaker switch has a cavity or space that forms first and second chambers and a plurality of channels. The switch also has at least two solid electrodes formed with electrode components exposed apart from each other within the cavity. A conductive fluid held within the cavity functions as a contact for putting the electrode components of two specific solid electrodes in a “closed” state when in contiguous form and in an “open” state when in non-contiguous form. A form modification unit, which includes the first and second chambers, modifies the form of the conductive fluid.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to a photoconductive switch module. The photoconductive switch module comprises a first substrate having light-emitting elements, and a second substrate having photoconductive switch elements, whose number is equal to that of the light-emitting elements. The light-emitting elements face the photoconductive switch elements, so that the photoconductive switch elements are turned on/off in accordance with lighting/extinction of the light-emitting elements. The photoconductive switch module further comprises a third substrate arranged between the first substrate and the second substrate. The third substrate has through holes, whose number is equal to that of the light-emitting elements. Each through hole is positioned between a light-emitting element and a photoconductive switch element facing each other. Drive light emitted from each light-emitting element travels to the photoconductive switch element via the through hole.

    摘要: The switch device comprises a pair of cavities, an elongate passage, a non-conductive fluid having a high electrical resistance, a conductive fluid having a high electrical conductivity and an electrical path. The passage is in fluid communication with the cavities and has a substantially elliptical cross-section over at least part of its length. The non-conductive fluid is disposed in each of the cavities. The conductive fluid is located in the passage. The electrical path is changeable between a connected state and a disconnected state by the non-conductive fluid separating the conductive fluid in the passage into non-contiguous conductive fluid portions.

    摘要: Pressure-actuated bi-stable optical switching is provided. In this regard, a pressure-actuated bi-stable optical switch includes an optical path and a cavity intersecting the optical path. The cavity defines a first position along the optical path and a second position displaced from the optical path. An index-matching liquid, which exhibits an index of refraction closer to an index of refraction of the optical path than to that of a vacuum, is arranged within the cavity. A pressure generator generates pressure that selective moves the liquid between the first and second positions. Additionally, a potential profile maintains the liquid in the one of the first and second positions to which it was most recently moved while the pressure generator is not generating pressure. Methods, systems and other switches also are provided.

    摘要: Optical frequency conversion systems and methods are described. In one aspect, an optical frequency conversion system for generating a frequency-shifted replica of an input optical signal includes a phase modulation control signal generator and an optical phase modulator. The phase modulation control signal generator receives the input optical signal and generates a phase modulation control signal characterized by a sequence of phase shift control portions synchronized to the input optical signal. The optical phase modulator receives the input optical signal and phase shifts the input optical signal in accordance with the phase shift control portions of the phase modulation control signal to generate a frequency-converted replica of the input optical signal. An optical frequency conversion method for generating a frequency-shifted replica of an input optical signal also is described.

Each latching structure includes energy barriers located in the passage on opposite sides of the channel. The energy barriers interact with the free surfaces of the conductive liquid to hold the free surfaces apart from one another.
