    摘要: A modular patient care system is described having unique mechanical, electrical, and logical features. An apparatus is described for allowing a modular connection arrangement wherein modules are detachably connected to each other in a convenient, flexible, interchangeable, and secure manner by providing a hinge connector pair, a specially located latch mechanism, and a guide means between any pair of modules. Additionally, an apparatus and method is described for automatic, sequential, and dynamic logical address assignment of functional units attached to the central management unit, according to their respective position in a linear array of units. Logical address assignment is designed to occur automatically upon a physical reconfiguration of the functional units, without requiring external input or a rearranged scheme for determining the relative physical positions of the functional units.

The dose rate calculation feature may also be used during infusion to titrate the dosage being delivered to the patient for improved therapeutic results. The stored list of drug names and associated infusion parameters may be altered by qualified personnel using an external programming source running specialized software.

A medical transaction carrier is used to communicate information regarding medication delivery and other patient information between a control system in communication with the care-giving facility's other information systems and a patient specific asset such as an infusion pump. This validation allows for positive control of all transactions even if a medical transaction carrier is lost. The medical transaction carrier may be a smartcard, a PDA such as a Palm™ Pilot, laptop computer, pager, mobile phone, or other device capable of storing and communicating information. The system may use either wired or wireless connections to communicate information between the components of the system.

    摘要: A needle free medical connector includes a housing with a first port and a second port. The connector also includes a piston element defining a fluid passageway between the first and second ports. The piston element is movable between flow and non-flow positions. The piston element has a compressible section having a variable inner width that forms a part of the flow path through the connector. As the piston is compressed to the flow position, the compressible section self-expands in width thereby maintaining or increasing the volume of the fluid passageway through the connector. The compressible section has a configuration permitting the continuous flow of fluid through its entirety.

    摘要: A needless valve is described which avoids the suctioning problems of the prior needleless devices upon deactivation and which preferably provides a positive self-purging effect. The valve is self-purging at the end of an administration cycle, avoiding clogging of attached catheters or other devices, and ensures that substantially all of liquid received into the valve is delivered to the receiver. The valve is also extremely simple in design and easy to construct and assemble, since it consists of only three pieces. The valve has a base with a connector for fluid communication attachment to tubing or other device, a solid elongated fluid channeling rod, and an internal fluid flow conduit; a flexible hollow expandable and contractible plug fitting over and moveable along the rod; and a tubular housing fitting over the plug and attached to the base. When the valve is activated by insertion of a nozzle of a fluid source, the rod and plug wall cooperate so that as the plug retracts along the rod, it is stretched and its interior expanded. Upon deactivation, the plug contracts, the interior volume decreases, and the resiling plug wall forces residual fluid within the valve to be expelled through the outlet, purging the residual fluid from the valve. No negative pressure is formed, so no suctioning of blood or other fluid from a patient or receiver occurs.

    摘要: Flow parameters in a fluid delivery assembly are determined by monitoring pressure responses and processing those responses along with information regarding the fluid flow. In one aspect, a processor controls the pump to pump flow quantities in accordance with a pseudorandom code. Portions of the resulting pressure signal sensed at the conduit is averaged, and the averaged values are then decoded in accordance with the pseudorandom code. An estimate of the equilibrium pressure is generated from the decoded average pressure values, while a summation of the pressure samples is generated from the undecoded pressure signals. The resistance to fluid flow of the system is determined from the estimated equilibrium pressure and pressure summation. For low flow rates, a processor controls the pump to pump fluid in a series of fluid boluses, with each fluid bolus delivered in the beginning of a separate timeslot. The equilibrium pressure is measured at the end of each timeslot, and a summation of the pressure samples is generated from the pressure signals. For high flow rates, the pump is controlled to vary the flow rate and the change in pressure is divided by the change in flow to directly determine the resistance. A resistance display continuously displays the resistance of the system. The pseudorandom coding and decoding can be used to filter out pressure-response crosstalk caused by multiple fluid infusion segments feeding into a common line.

The linkage portion and bow portion are engaged to allow the ends of the linkage portion to rotate within a certain range. The linkage portion has an extending pinching member which is used to occlude a portion of flexible tubing by pressing the tube against the bow portion. The pinching member of the linkage portion moves against the bow portion through the provision of a hinge portion of the linkage portion, which allows the pinching member to hold the tube in an open or closed position. In an alternative embodiment, both the bow portion and linkage portion are formed as a continuous body.
