    摘要: A method for producing a homogeneous and stable dispersion of ultrafine non-polar particles in a ternary polymer/solvent/non-solvent solution (dope) suitable for phase inversion formation into a controlled pore size microporous polymer membrane wherein the polymer contains homogeneously distributed ultrafine non-polar particles is disclosed. In one possible embodiment, the ultrafine non-polar particles are ultrasonically dispersed in at lest one portion of the solvent and is then added to the balance of an optionally separately prepared solvent/non-solvent solution. Subsequently, the polymer is added to and dissolved in the solvent/non-solvent/particle dispersion with the resulting solution being cast into a liquid film and subjected to phase inversion processing is disclosed The resulting polymeric microporous membranes containing highly dispersed and homogeneously distributed ultrafine non-polar particles are also disclosed.

    摘要: A process for the manufacture of porous structures comprises forming a dry mixture comprising a component providing primary separation capability, a component providing green strength reinforcement capability and, a component providing binding capability and selected from the group consisting of thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers; delivering the mixture to a suitable surface and building a desired thickness thereof; densifying the mixture into the form desired for the porous structure; removing the densified porous structure from the surface; binding the component providing the primary separation capability by melting the mixture to a temperature of up to about 20.degree. C. higher than the melting point of any thermoplastic component providing binding capability. Porous structures (100, 110, 120, 125, 140, 175) according to the present invention comprise from about 70 to about 90 parts by weight of a component providing primary separation capability (61, 62); from about one to about 15 parts by weight of a component providing green strength reinforcement capability (64, 65); and, from about eight to about 20 parts by weight of a component providing binding capability (67, 68) and selected from the group consisting of thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers.

    摘要: A filter apparatus for use in filtering a fluid is provided. The filter apparatus has a plug-in, quick-connect cartridge. The filter apparatus has walls forming a first chamber and a second chamber. The filter apparatus also has a diaphragm having a first surface and having a second surface for separating the chambers. The diaphragm has an aperture with an inner surface for receiving the cartridge. The cartridge has a connector member for attachment to the diaphragm, and has a filter member for filtering the fluid passing between the chambers. The first and second chambers have respective inlet and outlet ports. The connector member has an upset portion which bears against the diaphragm first surface. The connector member also has an extended portion, which extends through the aperture. The extended portion has a groove, which has a snap locking ring that bears against the diaphragm second surface. The upset portion and the snap locking ring provide a rigid cantilever attachment of the cartridge to the diaphragm. The extended portion also has a second groove, which has an O-ring seal that bears against the inner surface of the aperture for preventing fluid flow past the snap locking ring.
