摘要: Integrated multiple optical elements may be formed by bonding substrates containing such optical elements together or by providing optical elements on either side of the wafer substrate. The wafer is subsequently diced to obtain the individual units themselves. The optical elements may be formed lithographically, directly, or using a lithographically generated master to emboss the elements. Alignment features facilitate the efficient production of such integrated multiple optical elements, as well as post creation processing thereof on the wafer level.

摘要: A spectrometer for use with a desired wavelength range includes an array of filters. Each filter outputs at least two non-contiguous wavelength peaks within the desired wavelength range. The array of filters is spectrally diverse over the desired wavelength range, and each filter in the array of filters outputs a spectrum of a first resolution. An array of detectors has a detector for receiving an output of a corresponding filter. A processor receives signals from each detector, and outputs a reconstructed spectrum having a second resolution, the second resolution being higher than any of the first resolution of each filter.

摘要: Gray scale masks used to create optical elements are formed. Desired gray scale patterns may be created by varying the thickness of a light absorbing layer. Such variations in thickness may be created using multiple binary masks. Desired gray scale patterns may also be created on a computer using available software and then imaged onto film or a glass film plate. Direct contact or proximity printing is then used to transfer the true gray scale pattern onto photoresist. The photoresist is then etched, thereby forming the desired pattern therein. All portions of the desired pattern are simultaneously formed in the photoresist. The etched photoresist is then used to photolithographically fabricate either the optical element itself or a master element to be used in injection molding or other replication techniques. The gray scale mask itself may be used repeatedly to generate photoresists. The imaging is particularly useful for forming optical elements having a plurality of arrays of refractive elements.

摘要: An improved optical system is disclosed for projecting light in the form of an image to a remote target. The laser light source and a holographic optical element are mounted together in optical alignment. The optical element is created using iterative discrete computer encoding for optimum efficiency. In alternate embodiments, the diffractive optical element has a collimating lens encoded into the grating levels and it also performs soft aperture circularizing using either amplitude or phase control over the coherent light. An embossed diffractive optical element laminated to an injection-molded refractive element is also disclosed.

摘要: A transport for a laser writing and reading system in which a carriage is propelled by a falling mass, either its own or an auxiliary mass. The falling mass works against a hydraulic cylinder and piston in which hydraulic fluid is displaced from the cylinder. A valve limits the flow of hydraulic fluid out of the cylinder so that the fall of the mass, and hence the carriage is braked to a uniform velocity. The system also includes a laser having a beam for scanning in a line transverse to the direction of motion of the carriage. A photosensitive medium is disposed to receive the scanning radiation. Either the laser or the photosensitive medium may be mounted on the carriage, with the other mounted in the fixed position in optical communication therewith. By controlling the rate of fluid flow through the valve, the mass will fall with uniform velocity, thereby propelling the carriage at a uniform, vibration-free rate.
