摘要: A carrier for use as a stiffening member, e.g. in polymeric extrusions used in the motor and building industries, being of elongate strip form and having a plurality of longitudinally spaced, transversely extending members therein, wherein the said members are maintained in their spaced relationship by means of at least one sinuous or zig-zag securing member running longitudinally of the carrier and being welded or otherwise rigidly secured to each transversely extending member. The or each securing member may be wire having a generally uniform zig-zag construction, wherein a substantial part of a corrugation or zig-zag thereof is located between adjacent transversely extending members, or may be wire of a more extended sinuous construction such that its transverse positioning within the carrier is varied along the length of the carrier.

摘要: An elongate carrier for use in the manufacture of extruded and other products comprising a plurality of longitudinally spaced transversely extending members (3 or 31) and means (9,11,13 or 83,85,87,89,90) extending lengthwise of the carrier to control the spacing of said members, wherein the transverse location in said carrier of said means (9,11,13 or 83,85,87,89,90) is varied along the length of said carrier. In one embodiment the carrier may be formed of zig-zag wire the longitudinal extension of which is controlled by textile or other warps extending lengthwise of the carrier but whose transverse location is varied, and in another embodiment of the invention, the carrier may be slotted or stamped metal or plastics, the location of the slots or slits in the stamped material being varied transversely. The invention also extends to a method of manufacturing the carrier.

摘要: A strip formed at least partly of elastomeric material has at least a portion of its surface colored by application of a colored spray coating. In order to provide a distinct boundary between colored and uncolored portions of the strip an integral tear-off bead projecting outwardly from the surface may be provided with the colored spray coating being applied to one side thereof only. If desired, two different colored coatings may be applied, one to either side of the bead. The strip is particularly suited for use as a vehicle weatherseal and may, therefore, be of composite construction with a flange gripping portion and a sealing portion. The spray coating preferably consists of a polyurethane based finish utilizing a blend of individual components which adheres to the surface of the strip yet maintains the strip's flexibility.

摘要: A lock for a sliding door has at least one locking bolt adapted in use to be moved between an open position and a locking position by activation of an operating member which rotates a pinion which engages a pair of drive racks to cause movement of the locking bolt generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the bolt and in a direction parallel to a leading edge of a door in which the lock is mounted. The locking bolt is adapted when moved to its locking position to move into locking engagement with a staple-like keep mounted on a frame for the door when the door is in a closed position. A key operated deadlock facility prevents activation of the operating member. Preferably, the lock is also fitted with a safety mechanism so that it cannot be damaged if the door to which it is fitted is closed when the lock is in a locking position, and it is also possible to provide both an automatic latching and a panic feature on the lock.

摘要: A seal for sealing the gap between a door opening (1) and a door of a motor vehicle, the seal having a fixing portion (5) incorporating a carrier (9) which is preferably formed of wire bent into a zig-zag and held in that configuration by stitching or knitting (13), the carrier being incorporated in the fixing portion during extrusion of the seal which is also provided with a sealing portion (7) which may be formed of a different hardness from the fixing portion (5). A central region of the carrier (9) is not embedded in the material of the fixing portion so that wefts of limbs (11) of the zig-zag carrier are exposed so that the seal can be attached to either the door frame of the vehicle or the door itself by means of a plurality of large headed studs (3) welded to the frame or door, with the heads of the studs being engaged behind two adjacent limbs of the carrier and with the stem of the stud extending between said limbs. The invention also relates to a sealing system incorporating the seal and studs and to a method of forming a seal.

摘要: A method of forming a composite extrusion is disclosed wherein a main body portion (1) of the extrusion is first extruded from a thermosetting material, this body portion then being heated so as at least partly to cure it, the main body portion then being passed at high temperature through a further extruder where a thermoplastics material (8) is extruded onto one or more surfaces of the main body portion (1), the subsequent composite extrusion then being cooled and formed into its final shape. It is important that the combining step be undertaken at a temperature high enough to cause the thermoplastics material to bond to the thermosetting material and while it is simplest for the thermoplastics material to be on an outer surface of the composite extrusion, it is possible for it to be located within the thermosetting material by extruding the thermosetting material in an "opened out" state and then after extruding the thermoplastics and while the extrusion is still hot, folding in edge regions of the main body to overlie the thermoplastics material and bond thereto. The thermoplastics material may be of a special color, may be embossed, and if it is located within the thermosetting material in the end product, may be stiffer than the latter. The invention also extends to the extrusions themselves.
