Abstract:
A device that enables a user to exchange information with other people about the user's preferences with respect to the primary function in storage. The purpose of the exchange of information is to discover common user preferences or interests. Preferences such as musical taste can be rated by the user and the information exchanged. A comparison is made with other users and when a user is within a certain distance that shares common preferences/interests, the user is told of the other person, and the relative distance of the person having the common interests. The device is suitable for digital audio players, wireless telephones, remote controls, portable television/video/radio devices and can be used to match people based on their common preferences.
Abstract:
In a normally black double cell, grey scale enhancement is obtained by dividing pixels in the driving cell into sub-pixels which are rotated preferably through 180null with respect to each other.
Abstract:
A semiconductor device comprises a semiconductor body (1) which is provided at a surface (2) with a non-volatile memory cell comprising a source (3) and a drain (4), and an access gate (14) which is electrically insulated from a gate structure (8) comprising a control gate (9), the gate structure (8) being electrically insulated from the semiconductor body (1) by a gate dielectric (11,25). The gate dielectric (11,25) is provided with a charge-storage region wherein data in the form of electric charge can be stored. The access gate (14) has a substantially flat surface portion (17) extending substantially parallel to the surface (2) of the semiconductor body (1) and has the shape of a block which is disposed against the gate structure (8) without overlapping the gate structure (8).
Abstract:
Errors are corrected that occur in the operation of a combinatorial logic circuit in an integrated circuit. The combinatorial circuit computes a vector of intermediate signals from the input signal. The combinatorial logic circuit is designed so that, when the combinatorial logic circuit operates without error, the vector belongs to an error correcting code, not being a repetition code. The combinatorial logic circuit comprises combinatorial logic sections, each for computing a respective one of the intermediate signals independently from the other sections. An error correction circuit computes an output signal from the vector, with a computation that maps erroneous vectors to the output signal for a nearest correct vector from the error correcting code when these erroneous vectors differ from the correct vector in less than a predetermined number of the intermediate signals.
Abstract:
In a receiver, a frequency-synthesis circuit (SYNTH) generates a stepped-frequency signal (Ssf) having a frequency which can be varied in steps. A synchronization circuit (LOOP) synchronizes a tuning oscillator (LO) with the stepped-frequency signal (Ssf). It provides an integer frequency-relationship between the stepped-frequency signal (Ssf) and the tuning oscillator (LO). That is, if the stepped-frequency signal (Ssf) has a frequency Fsf, the tuning oscillator (LO) will operate at a frequency FlonullNnullFsf, N being an integer or an integer fraction.
Abstract:
A cathode ray tube device in which two deflection yokes and two electron guns are used, but in which only one shadow mask is used. Image uniformity is obtained by creating a partial overlap of the two images created by the two yokes.
Abstract:
A recording arrangement (1) for receiving and recording a television signal (F) and for receiving an information signal (I) which contains television program information (FPI), for example, title information about future television programs. The recording arrangement (1) has a keyword detector (54) which derives at least one keyword characteristic of the fields of interest of the user from title information of a television program recorded by the recording arrangement (1). A selector (58) selects, from the title information of future television programs, which is contained in the television program information (FPI), the title information containing at least one detected keyword. Selected television programs can be displayed on a display device (3) or can be recorded automatically.
Abstract:
An apparatus for detecting scene changes (as distinct from shot cuts or edit points) in audio/video signals is disclosed, together with video recording and logging apparatus employing such detection. The means for detecting scene changes comprises a filtering arrangement (20) which receives and filters the audio soundtrack accompanying the video signal to periodically determine a background audio signal level. By comparison (24) of current and previously determined (22) background levels, a scene change (SC) is flagged when the current background audio level differs from a previous background level by more than a predetermined amount. A table of scene change locations may then be built up and stored with the video and audio data.
Abstract:
In a system like a PC, the function of a graphics card is included with the monitor. A processor sends update signals to the monitor to modify image content. The graphics card processes the update signals and applies corrections to the updates to correct for physical imperfections of imaging process of the monitor. The graphic card writes the results into an image memory. The content of the image memory is used to drive the monitor.
Abstract:
In a transmission system comprising a transmitter (4) coupled via a transmission channel (10) to a receiver (6). The transmitter (4) comprises a channel encoder (14) for deriving encoded symbols from source symbols. The receiver (6) comprises a channel decoder (28) for reconstructing the source symbols from the signal received from the transmission channel (10). According to the present invention, the transmitter (4) comprises a separate encoder for coding and transmitting a coding property used in the channel encoder (14) to the receiver (6). The receiver (6) is arranged for receiving the encoded coding property from the transmission medium, and the separate channel decoder (26) is arranged for decoding the encoded coding property. The coding property provided by the separate channel decoder (26) is passed to setting means (27) in the channel decoder (28) for setting the coding property of the channel decoder (28).
