The system includes a search server 20 and a data recording/playing device 10 connected with each other over a network 30. The data recording/playing device 10 stores a data file of a given broadcast program and sends a search request specifying a program and a search condition to the search server 20. The search server 20 holds information on a given program, and at the same time, creates index information to be used for playing the program on the basis of information on the program, and sends the index information back to the data recording/playing device 10 in response to a search request from the data recording/playing device 10.

Thus, a file system is provisionally formed even if the DVDnullRW loaded in the DVD recorder is in the intermediate state having no file system recorded therein.

摘要： A method for converting video movie (e.g., family video movie or the like) clips for computer presentation in multi-media format using compact discs by presenting on, a computer screen a starting frame of each of desired video clips. Each starting frame of each of the desired video clips is made into a thumbnail image or picture (e.g., a reduced size video picture of the start of a certain video clip) for viewing on a computer screen. A plurality of thumbnail images or pictures are then set in a presentable format; and background sound or music is created for each of the video clips, if desired. Upon presentation of a plurality of thumbnail images or pictures on the computer screen, a user is capable of selecting and clicking a desired thumbnail image or picture in order to play a video clip corresponding to a selected one of the plurality of thumbnail images or pictures.

摘要： Prior to recording, a difference between a disc's temporal, maximum recordable length and a temporal length having been consumed by recording data is calculated. A scale is determined to allow a length of a period of a preprogrammed recording to be relatively matched on a timebase bar with the obtained difference's temporal length. Relative to the length of the period of the preprogrammed recording, an amount indicating a shortage of the difference's temporal length is calculated. An image of the timebase bar is created and the determined scale is used to create on the bar an image indicating the calculated amount of shortage, and these images are integrally displayed. Furthermore, if the current recording location and time shift reproduction location are also obtained, these locations are displayed on the same timebase bar.

摘要： Image data is recorded both in a first recording format and in a second recording format having a lower coding rate than in the first recording format. Image data recorded in the first recording format is erased after transmitted to an external apparatus. Image data recorded in the second recording format is kept on an internal recording medium. Transmission to external increases the recording time available for image data. Even if the user requests to replay image data which has been erased after transmitted, it is possible to immediately replay the corresponding image data recorded in the second recording format without the necessity of reconnecting to the external apparatus and receiving the image data.
