Abstract:
A method of modulating an immune response. The method includes administering a treatment comprising delta 5-androsten-3B, 17B-diol, delta 5-androsten-3B, 7B, 17B-triol, or both.
Abstract:
A system is provided. The system includes an electrosurgical generator configured to measure, collect and record data pertaining to a characteristic of tissue as the tissue is being electrosurgically treated. A tuner configured to couple to the electrosurgical generator includes a tuning circuit providing a load having a variable complex impedance for the electrosurgical generator when the electrosurgical generator is connected thereto. A controller including stored data pertaining to impedance values is in operable communication with the electrosurgical generator for retrieving the recorded data pertaining to the characteristic of tissue. The controller is in operable communication with the tuner for varying a complex impedance of the load. The controller configured to compare the recorded data pertaining to the at least one characteristic of tissue with the stored data pertaining to the plurality of impedance values and to adjust the tuner to one of the plurality of impedance values.
Abstract:
A surgical training system includes an anatomical training model, three or more telemetry sensors attached to the training model, a training tool, a display, and a controller. The anatomical training model physically simulates human anatomical features. The training tool comprises at least one transmitter configured to emit a signal. The controller includes one or more processors configured to determine a location of the training tool relative to the training model using the sensors in the signal, and produce a virtual image of the training tool and anatomical features simulated by the training model on the display based on the location of the training tool.
Abstract:
A needle access assembly and method for obtaining percutaneous needle access with little or no fluoroscopy. The method can include selecting a target for percutaneous access, directing a laser guide at a desired needle-insertion angle and in line with the selected target, aligning the needle access assembly with the laser, and inserting the needle into the target.
Abstract:
A system and method for converting static/still medical images of a particular patient into dynamic and interactive images interacting with medical tools including medical devices by coupling a model of tissue dynamics and tool characteristics to the patient specific imagery for simulating a medical procedure in an accurate and dynamic manner by coupling a model of tissue dynamics to patient specific imagery for simulating surgery on the particular patient. The method includes a tool to add and/or to adjust the dynamic image of tissues and ability to draw any geometric shape on the dynamic image of tissues and to add the shape into the modeling system.
Abstract:
A tissue mimicking phantom for ultrasonic treatment and a calibration device of an ultrasonic treatment device using the phantom are aimed to be provided. In order to dissolve the above-mentioned problems, the tissue mimicking phantom in accordance with the present invention is characterized by including an indicator agent which is denatured by an increase in temperature and which simulates an ultrasonic treatment effect, and a denaturation sensitivity controlling agent which is a different component from that of the indicator agent, which serves as a nucleus of cavitation at the time of ultrasonic irradiation, and which supports the increase in temperature and the denaturation of the indicator agent. The configuration makes it possible to obtain an tissue mimicking phantom which resolves the shortage of sensitivity, and which has excellent stability.
Abstract:
A method of producing a patient-specific three-dimensional model of a native tissue. A virtual replica of at least a portion of a native tissue is produced. A three-dimensional unitary replica of the portion of the native tissue is produced as a tangible representation of the virtual replica. The three-dimensional unitary replica includes at least one location of interest. The three-dimensional unitary replica includes a first area and a second area of the portion of the native tissue. The first area density has a first area density greater than a second area density of the second area.
Abstract:
This document discusses, among other things, a mechanism for providing motion having two degrees of freedom and centered on a single point within a sphere. Methods to design the mechanism consistent with specified parameters are also described.
Abstract:
A medical procedure training simulator may include a training space. The simulator may also include at least one camera in the training space. The at least one camera may be operable to capture video images of an object in the training space as one or more tasks are performed by at least one user. The simulator may also include a computer operable to receive the video images. The computer may also be operable to generate position data for the object by processing the video images. The computer may also be operable to generate a simulation of a scene from an operating room based on at least one of the video images and the position data. The computer may also be operable to display the simulation to the at least one user on an electronic display as the one or more tasks are performed by the at least one user.
Abstract:
A method for automated treatment of an area of skin of a patient with laser energy. The method including: identifying the area to be treated with the laser; modeling the identified area of the skin to be treated; and controlling the laser to direct laser energy to within the modeled area of the skin.
