摘要: Injection of silicon oil (SO) to the anterior chamber of an eye efficiently induces intraocular pressure (TOP) elevation. This effect occurs without causing overt ocular structural damage or inflammatory responses while simulating acute glaucomatous changes that human patients develop over years by inducing progressive RGC and ON degeneration and visual functional deficits within weeks. The anterior segments of the experimental eyes are not substantially affected, leaving clear ocular elements that allow easy and reliable assessment of in vivo visual function and morphology. More importantly, this is the only reversible ocular hypertension model by removing SO from the anterior chamber and particularly useful for testing neuroprotection treatment together with lowering TOP treatment. In summary, the acute ocular hypertension glaucoma model replicates secondary post-operative glaucoma. It is straightforward and reversible, does not require special equipment or repeat injections, and may be applicable to a range of animal species with only minor modifications.

摘要: A cadaverous heart model and methods of making and using the cadaverous heart model are provided. The cadaverous heart model may remain within the chest cavity of the cadaver (in situ) or may be explanted (ex vivo). The efferent and afferent vessels of the heart are ligated and one or more of the heart chambers are cannulated to permit the infusion of fluid. Video cameras or other means for visualizing the flow of fluid and opening and closing of valves are applied internally or proximally externally. Pumps and inflatable bladders are used to effect the flow of fluid within the heart model.

摘要: Anatomy mannequins, models and medical simulation systems described herein may facilitate various medical procedure training by rendering a realistic passive haptic touch when the end user manipulates the anatomy model with a handheld tool. An anatomy tissue model may comprise at least one fabric layer arranged over at least one foam layer to replicate the low-friction, elasticity and hardness of a living body anatomy tissue, such as the vagina wall, without requiring the use of lubricant in the medical simulation training procedure. The anatomy tissue model may be attached as an insert to a body structure model. A diversity of anatomy tissue models may be adapted with different fabric layer and/or foam layer designs, each design corresponding to a different haptic touch, so they can be interchanged in a medical training simulator system to realistically replicate different medical training scenarios.

摘要: An isolated heart or heart-lung preparation in which essentially normal pumping activity of all four chambers of the heart is preserved, allowing for the use of the preparation in conjunction with investigations of electrode leads, catheters, ablation methods, cardiac implants and other medical devices intended to be used in or on a beating heart. The system can be designed to be used within a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) unit or a X-ray computed tomography (CT) scanner. The preparation may also be employed to investigate heart and lung functions, in the presence or absence of such medical devices. In order to allow comparative imaging visualizations of either or simultaneously the heart and/or lung structures and devices located within the chambers of the heart or vessels or bronchi within the lungs, a clear perfusate such as a modified Krebs buffer solution with oxygenation is circulated through all four chambers of the heart and thus the coronary and/or pulmonary vasculatures. A ventilator with intubation tube can be used to inflate/deflate the lungs and/or provide oxygen to the isolated organs. The preparation and recordings of the preparation may be used in conjunction with the design, development and evaluation of devices for use in or on the heart and/or lungs, as well as for use as an investigational and teaching aid to assist physicians and students in understanding the operation of the cardiopulmonary system.
