    摘要: A method and system for controlling ventilation in a welding helmet is provided. The invention may be adapted to a wide variety of system types, and may reduce or eliminate the need for a shroud or barrier around the head and neck of the welder, of the type used in PAPR systems. The airflow system includes forward and rearward air streams, directed onto the face of the welder, onto the top of the head of the welder, and toward the back of the head of the welder. The air streams help to cool the welder, provide a fresh source of air for breathing, and create a positive pressure system that reduces or excludes entrainment of contaminated external air into the forwardly directed air flow. Certain embodiments may include streams that are filtered, split or redirected via deflectors and conduits to achieve the aforementioned goals.

    摘要: An air barrier that prevents entrainment of surrounding air from the welding environment into the welding helmet is provided. The barrier for the welding helmet contains a flexible curtain, front and rear edges, and means for securing the front edge of the curtain adjacent to the rear edge of the helmet. The flexible curtain may be made of fire-resistant and flexible molded material. The air barrier may be permanently secured to or removable from the welding helmet. The invention may be used in conjunction with a variety of ventilation and cooling systems, including small units that mount on or in welding helmets, as well as more elaborate blowing systems partially carried by the welder.

    摘要: A welder's helmet having a plurality of photovoltaic cell panels, responsive to light produced during welding operations, for driving a pair of fans secured to opposing side walls of a head protecting shell. The photovoltaic cell panels are angularly mounted to the shell beneath a viewing window provided therein so as to permit the head of the wearer to be turned away from the welding area without affecting fan output. During operation, each of the paired fans impels air through an opening in the shell into the interior space defined by the shell. An optional battery pack, electrically connected to the fan motors provides an electrical power back-up for energizing the fans in the event that insufficient light is available to the photovoltaic panels.

    摘要: A wheeled cabinet is provided and includes a vertically elevatable, universally angularly displaceable and longitudinally extendable boom supported therefrom. The free end of the boom supports a horizontal shield structure defining a shallow downwardly opening cavity and the interior of the cabinet houses a vacuum motor including an inlet and an outlet. A vacuum line is provided and includes an inlet end opening into the interior of the cavity of the shield structure and an outlet end coupled to the inlet of the vacuum motor. Further, an exhaust line is also provided and includes inlet and outlet ends. The inlet end of the exhaust line is coupled to the outlet of the vacuum motor and the outlet end of the exhaust line includes structure for securing the exhaust line outlet end over the register of the inlet for the air circulation exhaust duct for an operating room or the like. The shield structure is transparent and includes a substantially planar portion thereof for viewing therethrough and the planar portion is provided with a magnifier mounted thereon for shifting into and out of predetermined position on the shield structure.
