摘要： Ionic and ionogenic comb copolymers are disclosed along with personal care products that employ them as a modifier that results in increased sensory attributes and increased effectiveness in the deposition of actives and can also act as a thickening agent. The copolymer includes one or more repeating units derived from olefinically unsaturated anionic or anionogenic or zwitterionic comonomers, and one or more repeating units having the formula in which Y is a moiety forming part of a copolymer backbone, Z is a moiety that exhibits association with other Z moieties or with other moieties within the ultimate formulation in which the copolymer will be employed, and b is a bond or moiety that links the Z moiety to the Y moiety. In certain embodiments, the copolymer also includes repeating units derived from acrylamide monomers, olefinically unsaturated hydrophilic monomers or other olefinically unsaturated monomers.

The hair care product improves over existing liquids in that its solid granule form is completely plant derived and biodegradable and can sustain essential oils and antioxidants without the requirement of chemical preservatives, and can be packaged in eco-friendly water soluble film and compostable paper. It improves over existing solid forms in that it is a 100% water soluble granule that emulsifies easily in water to form an easy to use liquid product.

One antimicrobial cationic polymer has a polymer chain consisting essentially of cationic carbonate repeat units linked to one or two end groups. The end groups can comprise a covalently bound form of biologically active compound such as cholesterol. Other antimicrobial cationic polymers have a random copolycarbonate chain comprising a minor mole fraction of hydrophobic repeat units bearing a covalently bound form of a vitamin E and/or vitamin D2. The cationic polymers exhibit high activity and selectivity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive microbes and fungi.

These compositions can be used, for example, in cosmetic or hair applications. In certain aspects, compositions of the invention have the ability to microemulsify sebum while providing enhanced cleansing of cosmetic products from the skin or hair. In addition, the compositions have the ability to enhance the penetration of skin or hair active ingredients, such as emollients, humectants, anti-oxidants, lipids, vitamins, botanicals, dyes, tanning compounds, etc.
