摘要: A system includes an anti-vacuum surge (AVS) mechanism and a processor. The AVS mechanism is configured to suppress a vacuum surge during the phacoemulsification procedure. The processor is configured to (i) during the phacoemulsification procedure, receive pressure readings from one or more sensors, (ii) using the pressure readings, estimate an occurrence of a vacuum surge, and (iii) upon estimating the occurrence of the vacuum surge, activate the AVS mechanism in a predefined pulsed manner to suppress the vacuum surge.

摘要: A system for aseptic collection of mammalian amniotic fluid. The system includes a cannula having an attachment end and external end. The attachment end provides a concentric opening to a hollow chamber disposed about a central passage. The hollow chamber has a port disposed adjacent to the external end permitting at least a partial suction to be established within the hollow chamber, the attachment end thereby suctionally attached to a surface when the attachment end is disposed upon the surface. The central passage provides access to a central portion of the surface surrounded by the concentric opening of the hollow chamber. An extraction needle is disposed within the central passage of the cannula and presented to the central portion of the surface. The extraction needle penetrates the central portion of the surface and extracts amniotic fluid there beneath. An associated method of use is also provided.

摘要: A pneumatic cross-connect proportional valve provides the capability to calibrate pressure and vacuum sensors in a surgical cassette associated with a surgical console. Calibration of non-invasive pressure and vacuum sensors in a cassette by utilizing a proportional cross-connect to pressurize the lines with set pressure or vacuum the lines with set vacuum and measure the response of respective sensors in the cassette. The use of proportional pressure may be used along with other clearing methods to clear material clogging the aspiration channel pathways and tubing of the surgical system. Utilize the cross-connect functionality to more rapidly pressurize the aspiration line upon detection or prediction of a post occlusion surge, thereby reducing the pressure difference between the surgical field, the eye chamber, and aspiration line which may prevent, for example, a surge of fluid out of the anterior chamber of the eye.

摘要: Various arrangements of fluidics systems are disclosed. In one arrangement, an aspiration circuit for a fluidics system is disclosed that selectively controls aspiration. The aspiration circuit comprises an aspiration line operatively connected to a surgical instrument, an aspiration exhaust line operatively connected to a waste receptacle; an aspiration vent line connected at a first end to the aspiration line; and a selectively variable vent valve operatively connected to the aspiration vent line. The variable vent valve may be selectively moved to vary aspiration pressure within the aspiration line. Other fluidics systems are disclosed that include a selectively positionable irrigation valve that may also be incorporated into a fluidics system that includes a variable vent valve.

摘要: Methods of assembling a manifold for a medical waste collection system. A flapper valve unit is secured to a head of a cap. A filter element is positioned within a shell. Basket hands of the filter element are fitted between first pairs of ribs of the cap skirt. Fingers of the shell are fitted between second pairs of ribs of the cap skirt. The cap is secured to the shell to cover an open distal end of the shell. A drip stop is secured to the proximal end base of the shell to seat within the outlet opening. Ears may be fitted through holes defined by the flapper valve unit and cap holes defined by the cap so as to snap lock to the head of the cap. The hub of the flapper valve unit may be compressed with the ears snap locked to the head of the cap.

摘要: An aspiration system to control vacuum pressure in an ultrasonic surgical handpiece to result in improved control responsiveness during aspiration. The system comprises a console including a vacuum pump. The system includes a cassette comprising a joint that divides a vacuum path into at least two flow paths. A first joint port couples to a first flow path. A second flow path is coupled to a second joint port, a third flow path is coupled to a third joint port, and a fourth flow path is coupled to a port on a surgical waste receiver. A first sensor senses pressure in the fourth flow path and provides a waste receiver pressure signal. A second sensor senses pressure in the third flow path and provides a tip pressure signal. The controller controls a position of a first vent valve and a second vent valve based on the waste receiver pressure signal and the tip pressure signal, respectively.
