    摘要： A medical needle includes a solid rod-like inner needle to be inserted into the living tissue, and a hollow cylindrical outer tube needle to be inserted into the living tissue together with the inner needle, while the inner needle is inserted into the inner needle. The hollow cylindrical outer tube needle is retained in the living tissue after the inner needle is removed. A tip portion of the inner needle extending out of a front end bore of the outer tube needle is formed as a spherical crown portion capable of being inserted along a punctured hole previously formed in the living tissue so as not to damage the lumen of the punctured hole. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce a pain upon creating a puncture, subcutaneous bleeding and damage to a blood vessel wall, eliminate coring, and an infectious accident.

    摘要： Apparatus and methods for injecting fluid into the epidural space. An improved epidural needle or cannula is provided having a distal bulge or flare located within a few millimeters of the distal tip. The distal flare provides an increased resistance to penetration while the needle is penetrating the ligamentum flavum, and a decrease in resistance to penetration after the distal flare has successfully penetrated the ligamentum flavum. In a preferred embodiment, the distal bulge begins proximally at a distance of less than about 6 millimeters from the distal tip. The epidural needle according to the present invention preferably has the distal bulge or flare beginning proximally at a distance from the distal tip of less than the width of the epidural space. In one method according to the present invention, an epidural needle having a distal flare is advanced to the ligamentum flavum, advanced further through the ligamentum flavum at a perceived higher resistance to travel, until a decrease in resistance to travel is perceived, at which time the distal flare has penetrated the ligamentum flavum into the epidural space, at which time further advancement is stopped.

    摘要： A device is provided for performing intra myocardial injections. The device comprises a needle, a catheter formed with a lumen, and an inflatable abutment member. The abutment member is movable between a first configuration, wherein it is substantially tube-like and is deflated, and a second configuration, wherein it inflates beyond the distal end of the catheter and extends radially. Before the needle is advanced to perform an injection, the abutment member is moved to its second configuration to prevent contact between the catheter and the myocardial tissue during the injection.

    摘要： A grooved stylet having a puncture point aligned with the stylet axis is mounted through a catheter to form an assembly. The aligned puncture point enables more accurate piercing of a vein, and reduces the possibility of double piercing the vein.The stylet near its proximal end is provided with a circular shoulder which abuts the proximal end of the catheter, and the catheter end is positioned on the stylet so that only the stylet puncture point projects beyond the catheter.The catheter is constructed of a hydrophilic polymer which expands away from the stylet and permits the stylet to be withdrawn from the puncture site, leaving the catheter in place in the vein.If desired, a plurality of bores may be provided in the catheter for separate attachment to different I.V. solutions; this enables various solutions to be fed at different rates to the patient through a single I.V. puncture site.An assembly of the catheter may be used either with a stylet or with a needle. In the latter case, the catheter may be used as an over-the-needle assembly, or a through-the-needle assembly.

    摘要： A needle cooperates with a tip cover the coaxially fits about the needle and slides axially relative thereto. A thin walled tube of the needle has a shank portion extending from the proximal end toward the distal end and a tip portion extending from the distal end toward the proximal end. The tip portion has a diameter that is larger than the diameter of the shank portion. The needle includes a transition zone between the shank and tip portions wherein the axial distance of the transition zone is about an order of magnitude greater than the difference in the diameters of the tip and shank portions. The tip portion includes a bevel extending from the distal end toward the transition zone as a sharpened edge to ease insertion. The cover includes a bearing and a tip protecting part. The bearing is sized to coaxially fit about the shank portion and slide axially relative thereto. The difference in the diameters of the tip and shank portions is such that the bearing can not slide distally over the transition zone. The cover is positioned on the needle to locate the tip protecting part over the sharpened edge when the bearing is at the transition zone. The transition zone is shaped frusto conically and is located between the shank and tip portions. The frusto conical shape is at angle relative to the axis of the needle due to a difference in the first and second diameters thus providing a diametrical imperceptible change.

    摘要： Disclosed is an "over-the-needle" type catheter assembly which incorporates a shield operative to prevent inadvertant needle trauma after the needle has been withdrawn from the surrounding catheter sheath. The device of the invention comprises a tubular catheter sheath having an elongate piercing member (e.g. a needle) initially disposed in an "assembled" position within the lumen of the tubular sheath. The elongate piercing member is subsequently withdrawable to a "retracted" position outside the lumen of the tubular sheath. A shield is incorporated into the catheter assembly and is operative to attach to and shield the tip of the elongate piercing member when it is withdrawn from its initial "assembled" position within the tubular sheath. Such shield thereby serves to prevent the elongate piercing member from causing inadvertant puncture wounds and the like.
