A sports object includes a core assembly arranged within a shell and having multiple components to receive and transmit signals corresponding to movement of the sports object, as well as to support operational tracking of the sports object. The core assembly includes a multi-layer printed circuit board (PCB) comprised of a plurality of sections. The PCB is configured to at least partially envelope the energy storage device at a geometric center of the assembly. The PCB is connected to one or more antennas (e.g., via one or more contacts), which may be arranged on one or more sections of the PCB, arranged on a surface of the shell, and/or in a volume within the shell.

Abstract: A ball game apparatus in which movements of a coded ball are detected by detector units and an automatic indication of a player’s score is given, where data relating to the ball are stored in a database connected to the detector units, the data including the code of a ball and a code relating to a player to whom the ball has been allocated, the ball being configured to temporarily store, and to intermittently transfer to the detector units and thence to the database, data relating to the ball’s movements. A rechargeable battery is contained within the ball, and is arranged to be charged by a battery charging system. Features of the game may be controlled by means of a player’s mobile telephone.

Abstract: Described herein are wireless billiard ball devices comprising a spherical housing and a circuit board mounted within the spherical housing, the circuit board having components for measuring the impact location of a billiard cue strike upon the surface of the spherical housing in reference to the relative orientation of the device with respect to gravity. The devices described herein do not require manual alignment by a player to measure impact location data. In other embodiments, the spherical housing is comprised of a bored hole, a potting material, and a circuit board mounted within the bored hole and secured in place with the potting material, the circuit board having components for measuring the impact location of a billiard cue strike upon the surface of the spherical housing in reference to the relative orientation of the device with respect to gravity.

Abstract: This disclosure is directed to a smart playable flying disc and methods for determining associated motion parameters. The playable device may capture and transmit sensor data including motion data to a computing device. Motion parameters can be determined based on the sensor data. For example, an initial velocity of the playable device can be determined based on a throw duration and a maximum acceleration. Machine learning algorithms can determine updated parameters based on learned parameters. The playable device can include rapid charging circuits to receive power from a remote charger. Sensor data may also be interpreted by the computing device as gestures for interacting with the computing device or for presentation during gameplay. The computing device can capture image data of the playable device and identify the playable device and annotate image data based on the sensor data from the playable device.

Abstract: A device includes a signaling means and a motion sensor, and logic for activating or controlling the signaling means in response to a sensed motion according to an embedded logic. The device may be used as a toy, and may be shaped like a play ball or as a handheld unit. It may be powered from a battery, either chargeable from an AC power source directly or contactless by using induction or by converting electrical energy from harvested kinetic energy. The embedded logic may activate or control the signaling means, predictably or randomly, in response to sensed acceleration magnitude or direction, such as sensing the crossing of a preset threshold or sensing the peak value. The visual means may be a numeric display for displaying a value associated with the count of the number of times the threshold has been exceeded or the peak magnitude of the acceleration sensed.
