Abstract:
An anti rewet deck is provided for press rolls used to increase consistency of fibrous pulp slurry from approximately 4 percent up to about 30 to 50 percent. This is accomplished by biasing the location of the drainage holes in the roll shell to the forward edge of the drainage compartments within the roll shell. To avoid the necessity for handing of the rolls, a mechanism is provided for accomplishing the purposes of minimizing rewet at practical production rates by providing baffle plates which effectively orient the draining pattern in the desired direction. Such baffles can be permanently or removably installed once the desired handing of the rolls is determined.
Abstract:
A device for extracting liquid from sludge which uses a perforate conveyor belt to carry the sludge through the device. A portion of the belt carrying the sludge is supported by a grid support system which includes a series of wear support members. These wear support members each have a rigid body member having an insert wear strip slidably mounted on the rigid body member which can easily be removed from the device without disconnecting the body member from the device.
Abstract:
A removable baffle insert for positioning in a filtrate compartment of a rotary drum vacuum filter comprising an elongated C-shaped member positioned between a pair of compartment walls and having one arm thereof providing the ceiling of the compartment to prevent filtrate run-back during the filtration cycle.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus is disclosed for steam-drying filter cake formed on a drum on disc-type vacuum filter which is mounted for rotation in an enclosed feed slurry tank. To block heat loss and subsequent condensation of the steam within the enclosed area, an insulating barrier is floated on the feed slurry to maintain a thermal separation therebetween.
Abstract:
Apparatus is disclosed for dewatering aqueous suspensions including a pair of rotatable rolls forming a nip therebetween, so that the aqueous suspension can pass downwardly through the nip and be dewatered by removing a filtrate from the suspension, and the dewatered suspension can pass downwardly from the nip, at least one of the rolls being liquid permeable, and at least one screen adjacent to the roll and disposed below the nip, the screen is separated from the roll by a predetermined distance and extends along its length, the predetermined distance being a sufficient distance so that a film of filtrate on the roll passes between the roll and upper end of the screen on one side of the screen and the dewatered suspension passes on the other side of the screen so that the filtrate is prevented from contacting the dewatered suspension below the nip.
Abstract:
A treatment process for recovering protein, fatty and water component products from a float material produced by a waste water treatment system, wherein the protein and fatty components possess improved stability and are suitable for further processing for inclusion in various products, such as animal feed. The recovered water component can also be further processed before discharge into a sewer system.
Abstract:
Apparatus and process for separating components of a treatment mixture from a waste treatment system comprises feeding the treatment mixture to an endless filtering belt. The filtering belt has a mesh size selected to permit liquid components of the mixture to filter down through the belt while retaining particulate components thereon. The belt is moved by a drive system generally in a circuit between upstream and downstream ends of the apparatus as liquid components are separated from the mixture by filtering through the filtering belt. Unfiltered mixture is passed beneath a press disposed in opposed relation with the belt generally between the upstream and downstream ends of the apparatus. The press is capable of applying a squeezing pressure against the mixture to squeeze the mixture between the press and the filtering belt to separate water and liquified fatty components from the mixture for filtering through the belt. The press is adapted for movement toward and away from the filtering belt to allow the mixture to pass downstream of the press substantially without particulate components of the mixture being mashed into and entrained in the filtering belt by the squeezing pressure of the press.
Abstract:
Improved apparatus for dewatering or washing a suspension of paper pulp in which first and second rolls are rotatably mounted with an endless loop of wire tensioned around the rolls, and in which a headbox delivers a pulp suspension to be thickened or washed and positioned with an outlet to discharge the pulp suspension into or onto the wire as it approaches the first roll, and in which the washed or dewatered pulp is collected after it has passed between the wire and a second roll, in which the first roll has a central shaft, and screw flighting on the shaft formed in left and right-hand sections are terminated at cylindrical discs mounted at opposite ends of the shaft, and in which the screw flighting has a depth which is substantially greater than the maximum thickness of the pulp layer and in which the aggregate open area between the screw flights is substantially greater than the cross-sectional area of the headbox outlet to assure that the spaces between the flights can be no more than partially filled with a pulp suspension during operation.
Abstract:
A foam having inter-communicating fine pores throughout has a high liquid absorbing power and is rich in liquid-holding ability. When a slurry-state liquid is poured onto the surface of a liquid-permeable filter structure provided with such a porous layer having a good elastic recoverability from its compressed state, the liquid part of said slurry is absorbed in the foam structure due to the capillary action of the pores, whereas the mud-like solid part (wet cake) suspended in the slurry is retained on the surface of the porous layer in coagulated fashion and thus it is separated from the liquid part. By positioning a transfer means having a substantially even and smooth work surface so as to be in appropriate contact with the resulting layer of the solid part deposited on the sheet surface, the said solid part is transferred from the said sheet surface onto the work surface of the transfer means and is deposited thereon. Therefore, by causing this sheet structure to make continuous circulatory movement and also causing the transfer means which is positioned close thereto to move continuously at roughly the same speed and in the direction corresponding to the moving filter structure, and by continuously pouring the slurry-state liquid onto the foam surface, it is possible to continuously separate the said slurry into the solid part and the liquid part with a high efficiency. If the separating apparatus is arranged so that the filter structure is mounted on the circumference of a rotary drum body, the separating apparatus will conveniently have a compact size, requiring only a small floor area and space for its installation.
