摘要: A saddle-shaped random packing element is provided with laterally spaced, arcuate side members and a plurality of inner and outer rib elements that extend from and between the side members to form an interior volume. At least one lesser rib element extends from the side members and is at least partially positioned within the interior volume so that at least about 20 percent of the surface area of the packing element is positioned within the interior volume.

摘要: A method of making an insert comprising an elongate core having a plurality of loops disposed longitudinally therealong and angularly thereabout by taking such an insert wherein a portion of each loop lies in close proximity to a first conceptual enveloping surface and deforming the loops or displacing the loops so as to be inclined to the longitudinal axis of the core so that a greater proportion of each loop periphery is in close proximity to a second conceptual surface of smaller cross-section than said first surface. Also disclosed are inserts made in the above way and vessels incorporating such inserts.

摘要: A packed bed includes a vessel including a shell, an inlet, and an outlet, wherein the space inside the shell between the inlet and outlet forms an internal volume; a plurality of packing material structures filling at least a portion of the internal volume thereby forming a packed volume, wherein the packed volume has a void fraction, and the packing material structures provide an aggregate surface area; and the vessel has a pressure drop between the vessel inlet and vessel outlet, wherein the pressure drop is less than 1.0 times that of a packed bed of the non-twisted shapes with the same cross-section.
