    摘要: In the present invention, a method for joining members involves preparing a steel component having a bottom wall in which a hole is provided, and a hollow aluminum pipe. The aluminum pipe is slipped through the hole in the steel component and passed through the bottom wall, rubber is inserted into the interior of the aluminum pipe, and the rubber is compressed in the direction of the axis (L) of the aluminum pipe and induced to distend towards the outside from the inside. As a result of the foregoing, at least a section of the aluminum pipe slipped through the hole is induced to undergo expansion and is joined by clinching to the bottom wall. This method for joining members reduces the load on the members, improves the joint strength, and enables two members to be joined at reduced cost.

A method for manufacturing the metal gasket for a cylinder head includes the steps of: forming a prepared hole 3c in each of a plurality of protruding pieces 3b of the step adjustment plate 3; forming a tubular portion 3d including a plurality of projecting segments 3d1 by inserting a die 4 including a polygonal pyramidal punch 4a into the prepared hole 3c so as to bend up a peripheral portion around the prepared hole 3c while cutting the peripheral portion into segments; forming in the substrate 2 an fastening hole 2h in correspondence with a position of the tubular portion 3d formed in the step adjustment plate 3; and engaging the protruding piece 3b through the substrate 2 by inserting the tubular portion 3d of the step adjustment plate 3 through the corresponding fastening hole 2h formed in the substrate 2, and subsequently folding the plurality of projecting segments 3d1 of the tubular portion 3d over to an outside of the substrate 2 and flattening out the projecting segments 3d1.

    摘要: Double-action clinching includes establishing a first layer on a second layer, and securing the layers between a tool's punch and clinching punch. First layer has less ductility than second layer, and clinching punch diameter is smaller than punch diameter. Layers are secured so: a tool support receives a portion of a second layer surface; clinching punch, slidably positioned in the support, is adjacent another portion of the second layer surface; and punch, positioned opposed to clinching punch, is adjacent a portion of a first layer surface. Pressing the punch into the first layer surface portion forms an aperture through the first layer. Pressing the clinching punch, in a direction opposite to the punch pressing, into the other portion of the second layer surface forces portion(s) of the second layer into the aperture, and forms a micro-interlocking flush-back joint between an aperture side wall and the second layer portion(s).

    摘要: The present invention is for a method of lap joining two tubular members and then hydroforming the tubular assembly. An insert end of the first tubular member is inserted into a receiver end of the second tubular member to form a lap joint. A filler metal ring is placed about the outer periphery of the insert end so that it is adjacent the opening of the receiver end of the second tubular member. Heat is applied to braze or solder the lap joint, forming a tubular assembly. The tubular assembly is then hydroformed during which time a supplementary mechanical lock may be formed in the lap joint.
