    摘要: An exemplary embodiment of the invention provides a method of preparing a reinforced refractory joint between refractory sections of a vessel used for containing or conveying molten metal, e.g. a metal-contacting trough. The method involves introducing a mesh body made of metal wires into a gap between metal-contacting surfaces of adjacent refractory sections of a vessel so that the mesh body is positioned beneath the metal conveying surfaces, and covering the mesh body with a layer of moldable refractory material to seal the gap between the metal-contacting surfaces. Other embodiments relate to a vessel formed by the method and a vessel section with a pre-positioned mesh body suitable for preparing a sealed joint with other such sections.

    摘要: A casting apparatus has a long cooling jig inclined with respect to a vertical direction. A melt is supplied to and flowed on a bottom surface of the cooling jig, whereby a solid phase is generated in the melt to obtain a semi-solid slurry, and the semi-solid slurry is transferred into and solidified in a cavity of a mold to obtain a casting. The casting apparatus further has a release agent application unit, and a release agent is applied by the application unit to the bottom surface of the cooling jig in a direction toward a supply of the melt at an angle of less than 90° to the bottom surface before supplying the melt to the cooling jig.

Molds have interior refractory linings. Embedded in linings are electrical resistance heating elements that heat exterior side surfaces of ingots, between first and second stations, to prevent those surfaces from reducing below rolling temperatures while interior temperatures of ingots reduce to levels suitable for rolling.

    摘要: A lead melting furnace or pot, large enough to provide molten metal for 6-18 grid casting machines, is isolated from the casting machines in a separate, remote, room or chamber. The automatically fed, electrically heated, covered and insulated furnace is positioned at a level above the inlet to the casting machines, so that the molten metal is gravity fed from one or more bottom discharge outlets whereby conventional pumps are eliminated and agitation of the molten metal in the furnace minimized. An impedance heated feed line system connects the furnace and casting machines and elevates the molten metal from the relatively low 700.degree.-800.degree. F. temperatures achieved in the furnace to the required 850.degree.-1100.degree. F. casting temperature. A specially designed exhaust hood covers each group (preferably 3) of casting machines to exhaust contaminated gases and simultaneously provide make-up air to minimize the effect on the casting room atmosphere. A scrap conveyor continuously collects excess lead trimmed from the finished grids and returns the reusable metal immediately to the furnace.

    摘要: A pouring ladle for pouring molten metal into molds or other containers, including wall structure forming a chamber for holding the molten metal, a spout having wall structure forming longitudinal passage means therein, the passage having an inlet end in fluid communication with a chamber and an outlet end through which molten metal can be discharged, a drive gear arrangement is provided for rotating the pouring ladle about an axis of rotation, positioned such that the axis of rotation passes through the center of the discharge end of the passage, and the pouring ladle and spout being constructed such that the lower outer surface of the wall structure forming the chamber and the lower outer surface of the wall structure of the spout lie in the same horizontal plane when the ladle is in its full, non-pouring position. Thus, the entire ladle can be positioned above the mold while it is being filled with molten metal, or while the ladle is being moved to the pouring position.
