    Abstract: A centering device for centrally chucking a rotary tool includes a socket on a mandrel of a tool holder. A tool arrangement includes a tool holder that has a mandrel, and including a rotary tool that is placed on the tool holder and includes a socket. In order to create a universal centering device that is easy to manufacture and can be used for a multitude of internal chucking units, and create a tool arrangement in which the rotary tool can be centered with high accuracy on the internal chucking unit, the centering device is designed as a closed centering ring which can be inserted between the rotary tool and the mandrel and which has an elastically deformable contour, and such a centering device is disposed between the mandrel and the rotary tool in the tool arrangement.

    Abstract: A replaceable head cutting tool increases the strength of engagement between a tool body and a coupling member without causing damage. A cylindrical mounting unit of the coupling member which is made of a metal having hardness lower than the hardness of the tool body, is inserted into a mounting hole having a concave portion formed on the inner surface of the tool body. The mounting unit is plastically deformed so as to increase in diameter, and the outer peripheral surface of the mounting unit contacts the inner peripheral surface of the mounting hole and is engaged with the concave portion which includes a first wall surface that is inclined toward the outer peripheral side as it moves in an insertion direction of the mounting unit, and a second wall surface that is inclined toward the inner peripheral side as it moves in the insertion direction.

    Abstract: An exchangeable head cutting tool contains a tool main body made of a hard material and a connecting member made of a metal material having a lower hardness than the hard material. The tool main body and the connecting member are joined by inserting a cylindrical mounting portion of the connecting member into a mounting hole formed in the tool main body, and by plastically deforming the mounting portion so as to expand a diameter thereof, thereby bringing an outer peripheral surface of the mounting portion into close contact with the inner peripheral surface of the mounting hole and thus making the outer peripheral surface of the mounting portion engage with a concave portions of the tool main body. A diameter expanding member having a higher hardness than the connecting member is press-fitted into and fixed to an inner peripheral portion of the mounting portion.

    Abstract: A cutting tool has a plurality of cutting portions located along a cutter peripheral surface, alternating between cutter side surfaces, with a cutting insert retained in each cutting portion. At least one cutting portion has a main recess, formed opposite of the respective cutting insert. The main recess has a recess arcuate surface and a recess bearing surface.     Abstract: A milling tool includes a milling body and a plurality of insert-carrying cartridges mounted in the milling body. Each cartridge includes front and rear side surfaces which oppose leading and trailing walls of a pocket formed in the milling body. The cartridge also includes inner and outer flank surfaces which interconnect the front and rear side surfaces. The body includes a slot which opens into the front side surface at a location intermediate the ends of the cartridge, to divide the body into a rigid base portion and an expandable portion. The base portion has a seat for a cutting insert. A threaded hole is formed in the slot intermediate the slot ends to receive a threaded wedge screw. Tightening of the screw causes the expandable portion to be expanded into contact with the leading wall of the pocket and thereby push the base portion into tight contact with the trailing wall of the pocket. Accordingly, the cartridge is secured within the pocket by a tight frictional contact which resists chafter. The cartridge carries an adjusting screw to enable the cartridge to be adjusted in a direction along the axis of rotation of the milling body.
