Method of manufacturing a cemented carbide cutting tool, includes a) bonding a body part of hot work tool steel and a cutting part of cemented carbides together by heat treatment; b) cooling the bonded body part and cutting part for a preset period of time; c) machining the cutting part to have a predetermined pattern according to its application and forming a cutting tool; d) coating a surface of the machined cutting tool with a film of at least one of metallic oxides, nitrides and carbides; and e) cooling the coated cutting tool for a preset period of time in air, and a cutting tool manufactured by the method. Cracks do not generate even after the coating step, and thus cemented carbide cutting tool having excellent mechanical properties may be manufactured.

A composite utility knife blade and method of making such a blade involves butt joining a tool steel wire to a front edge of an alloy steel backing strip. The wire is electron beam welded to the backing strip to form a composite strip defining a first metal portion formed by the alloy steel backing strip, a second metal portion formed by the tool steel wire, and a weld region joining the first and second metal portions. The composite strip is then annealed, and the annealed strip is straightened to eliminate any camber therein. The annealed composite strip is then hardened such that the first metal portion defines a surface hardness within the range of approximately 38 Rc to approximately 52 Rc, and the second metal portion defines a surface hardness within the range of approximately 60 Rc to approximately 57 Rc.

At least a first side of the chipper knife has a raw, unworked surface or working stripes in the longitudinal direction of the chipper knife, that is substantially parallel to the cutting edge. This first side also has a thickened cutting edge portion (5, 5′) in the area next to the cutting edge, which edge portion has working stripes in the transverse direction of the chipper knife, at an angle to the cutting edge. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing such a chipper knife.

A method for directly forming a cutter mold with double etching and an apparatus thereof includes the following steps: a metal plate for being made, the cutter mold is tightly pressed with a light-resisting agent membrane first, an image of cutter mold drawing, which provides lines with widths thereof being one fifth or one tenth of the lines on the ink drawing of conventional cutter mold, is transferred to the light-resisting agent membrane. The thinner lines perform obstructing the etching liquid, which sprays toward the membrane to etch the work. Finally, the unnecessary membrane is peeled and two lateral sides of the formed cutter mold are etched with light etching liquid to complete the cutter mold with a sharp blade.

In one embodiment, a cutting edge blank is provided and milled by FIB to form an atomically sharp edge. In another embodiment, a metal cutting edge blank is provided, a layer of a harder material is provided on at least one side of the blank and it is milled by FIB to form an atomically sharp edge.
