Abstract:
A compression molding apparatus includes a mold of a first material having a first coefficient of thermal expansion and a plug of a second material having a second coefficient of thermal expansion different from the first coefficient of thermal expansion. The mold has a cavity into which the plug is placed such that the mold and plug are disposed relative to one another providing a gap therebetween having a first volume for holding a body that at least partially fills the gap when the mold and plug are at a first temperature and for molding the body into a molded product when the mold and plug are subjected to a second temperature that causes one of the first and second materials of the mold and plug to change in size more than the other and thereby change the gap to a second volume different from the first volume and compress the body.
Abstract:
A vulcanizing method including a cylindrical vulcanizing drum for winding and molding unvulcanized rubber belt materials thereover, the vulcanizing drum being removably and rotatably supported on a transfer mechanism. A pair of endless pressurizing bands are arranged to oppose each other with the vulcanizing drum between, the pressurizing bands arcuately surrounding and pressing the corresponding portions of the circumferential surface of the vulcanizing drum. While the circumferential surface of the vulcanizing drum is heated inside, and the respective pressurizing bands are opposingly pressed against the vulcanizing drum, the respective pressurizing bands are synchronously rotated so as to turn the vulcanizing drum and continuously vulcanize the unvulcanized rubber belt molding on the drum.
Abstract:
A method of making an explosive charge liner comprises introducing powdered material into a basin defined by a die block, where a punch is shaped to interact with the basin, excluding the powdered material from a central portion of the basin, pressing the punch into the powdered material in the basin to form the explosive charge liner, and removing the explosive charge liner from the die block. The explosive charge liner comprises an aperture in an apex area of the explosive charge liner corresponding to the central portion when removed from the die block.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for partial depth-wise cure of a tire inner liner are disclosed. The method comprising forming a layer of uncured rubber, that layer having a first surface and an opposite surface, applying pressure to the layer of rubber, heating the layer of rubber from the first surface to more fully cure the layer on that surface than on the opposite surface, cooling the layer of rubber and releasing the pressure applied to the layer of rubber after the layer has cooled. The apparatus comprising a drum, a heat exchange chamber on the inner surface of the drum, a housing that surrounds the drum, a space between the outer surface of the drum and the housing, an inflatable seal at each end of the housing inside the housing such that by inflating the seal, the seal expands and encloses the space between the drum and the housing, a gas inlet for feeding a gas to the space and pressurizing the space, a heat source in communication with the heat exchange chamber for heating the drum and a coolant source in communication with the heat exchange chamber for cooling the drum.

Abstract:
A tubular film manufacturing method includes the steps of winding a sheet film on a cylindrical member, cutting a winding end portion of the sheet film, and inserting the cylindrical member, on which the sheet film is wound, into a tubular mold member. The sheet film is molded into a tubular film by heating. In the inserting step, the cylindrical member is inserted into the tubular mold member while the winding end portion of the sheet film is pressed by an elastically deformable brush member.
Abstract:
A method of making arched polymeric V-belts is provided which utilizes a cylindrical polymeric forming member which has radially inwardly facing annular concave polymeric forming surfaces and wherein an uncured belt sleeve is placed with its normal outside surface adjacent the polymeric forming surfaces and compressed thereagainst during curing thereof and the compressing action is achieved by engaging the inside surface of the belt sleeve and urging the belt sleeve radially outwardly against the polymeric forming member and its forming surfaces while transmitting the same pressure against each unit area of such inside surface to thereby define annular arched belt portions in the sleeve which are then cut from such sleeve to define arched belts each having a convex surface and an opposite concave surface which are defined with great precision and with all arched belts cut from the cured belt sleeve being substantially identical.
