摘要: An apparatus for welding polymeric pipes such as pipe segments in a pipeline welds first and second pipes around a circumferential weld zone and has one or more welding heads, a carriage for guiding the one or more welding heads around the circumferential weld zone and a drive arrangement for effecting relative rotation between the pipes and the or each welding head. The or each of the welding heads has a body and a heating element carried by the body for supplying heat to the circumferential weld zone to cause melting thereof. The heating element is arranged to reciprocate relative to the body of the welding head between a retracted and an extended configuration such that as the heating element moves from the retracted to the extended configuration the heating element melts and penetrates the surface of the circumferential weld zone forming a weld.

摘要: A method is disclosed for controlling a process in which a component 4 is moved relative to another component 6 such that at least one of the components 4, 6 experiences a reduction in magnitude in at least one dimension. Such processes may include for example friction welding. The method comprises monitoring energy input to the process and adjusting an input parameter for the process based on the monitored energy input. The monitoring of energy input is performed before any reduction in component magnitude has begun to take place.

摘要: The device for sealing together a formed bottom sheet and a lidding sheet between a feed roll and a sealing roll has a heating unit for preheating the lidding sheet before the sealing operation. The heating unit is a contactless induction heating device which has coils and magnetic-field influencing elements which are arranged transversely to the travel direction of the lidding sheet and opposite at least one of the coils. The distance between each of the magnetic-field influencing elements and the at least one coil is adjusted by a control unit on the basis of measurement values of temperature sensors arranged downstream of the magnetic-field influencing elements in order to regulate the temperature profile of the lidding sheet.

The sealer has a pressing-sealer lever as is actuated electromagnetically, and is further equipped with an air-damper to function as a buffer for the actuating movement of the pressing-sealer lever.

摘要: A method of high speed bonding at least one material includes applying acoustic energy, using an acoustic horn and an anvil, to the material. The method also includes applying force to at least one of the horn and the anvil to yield a peak pressure between the horn and the anvil of at least 2.068.times.10.sup.7 N/m.sup.2. The acoustic energy and pressure are applied for a time sufficient to create bonds in the material such that the material is sufficiently quenched before reducing the pressure. The method can include applying acoustic energy at an amplitude of vibration selected in combination with the frequency of vibration to yield an acoustic velocity of no greater than 4.72 m/s.
