Abstract:
Apparatus particularly suited for cutting continuously moving thermoplastic film such as linear low density polyethylene and includes a stationary anvil, preferably a roller of tool steel and a tungsten carbide die mounted for rotation along a circular arc intersecting the anvil. The roller is positioned at a stationary location along a circular arc for cyclicly contacting and rolling across the cutting surface for cutting the plastic film web passing between the roller and the cutting surface at the predetermined locations in the web. The roller is mounted on a support member by an assembly including a bracket mounting a shaft supporting the roller. The bracket is attached to one end of a rocker arm and the other end of the rocker arm is pivotally carried by the support member. A housing for a loading spring is carried by the support member adjacent the rocker arm. The housing has a tubular opening therethrough having an axial extending transversely to the axis of the shaft supporting the roller. A helical loading spring is disposed within the tubular opening of the housing and has one end engaging the rocker arm. A spring adjusting screw is carried in one end of the tubular opening in the housing for engaging the opposite end of the helical spring to adjust the load pressure of the spring applied to the roller. A stop member is carried by the support member on the opposite side of the rocker arm to limit movement of the roller in the direction of the cutting surface.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus particularly suited for cutting continuously moving thermoplastic film such as linear low density polyethylene and includes a stationary anvil, preferably a roller of tool steel and a tungsten carbide die mounted for rotation along a circular arc intersecting the anvil. In an embodiment for punching holes in the film, the apparatus includes a saddle shaped hollow tungsten carbide die projecting slightly above the cylindrical surface of a roll passing under a spring biased tool steel roller for cutting a semicircular hole in a continuously moving continuous plastic film web for the manufacturer draw tape bags. A vacuum is supplied to the center of the die for removing the segment of plastic film cut out by the apparatus. In an alternate embodiment, the rotary cutting apparatus includes a tungsten carbide plate member having a straight cutting edge is rotated along a circular arc at the end of support mounted to a shaft to intersect a spring biased roller supported along the arc to cut a perforation in a continuous plastic film passed between the straight cutting edge and roller. The alternate embodiment is suited for employing a plurality of the rotary cutting devices at spaced stations for cutting perforations across a moving film web.
Abstract:
Blanks (10) for producing folding boxes, etc., are severed from an advancing sheet (11), conveyed continuously, at a constant speed by first drawing rollers specifically by partial severing cuts (cutting lines 33, 34) supplementing one another and made in successive work cycles. The blanks (10) are severed from the sheet (11), with the exception of residual connections (35), and are separated completely from the sheet (11) by tearing as a result of a higher speed of additional drawing roller located downstream of the first rollers.
Abstract:
A package material processing machine comprises a feeding device for feeding a package material along a predetermined feed course and a processing roller having an outer circumferential surface opposite to the feed course. The package material is processed by rotating the processing roller with feeding the package material along the feed course. In order to process the package material at a desirable pitch with feeding the package material continuously, the machine further comprises a setting device for setting a value correlative with a pitch between a plurality of processed portions on the package material, a feed amount detection device for detecting information correlative with a feed amount of the package material, and a rotation control device for controlling a rotation of the processing roller on the basis of the value set through the setting device and the information detected by the feed amount detection device in such a manner that the plurality of the processed portions are arranged in a feed direction of the package material at the pitch corresponding to the value set through the setting device.
Abstract:
A tool positioning device for use in combination with a machine for working paperboard blanks conveyed in a horizontal direction through the machine. The machine includes pairs of parallel rotary shafts wherein each pair of shafts includes upper and lower shafts and carry a plurality of tool heads. The positioning device includes a plurality of coupling members actuated in a vertical direction by actuators wherein the coupling members are moved downwardly into engagement with the tool heads. The coupling members are supported on an actuator support which is mounted to a transfer structure wherein the transfer structure moves the actuator support in axial movement to thereby slide the tool heads along their respective shafts to preselected positions along the shafts.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for forming a fold construction in a triple wall corrugated paper board comprises a pair of spaced apart main frame plates having four support plates connected therebetween in a direction which is transverse to a feed direction for the paper board. A pair of shaft carrier plates which have linear bearings thereon, are mounted for sliding movement to the support shafts between the frame plates. Spreader tubes are engaged around the support shafts for maintaining a selected and accurate distance between the carrier plates. Upper and lower shafts are rotatably mounted between the carrier plates and carry knives, scoring members or other fold forming elements for scoring or cutting the paper board to form segments of the fold construction. A table is fixed between the carrier plates that cooperates with a hold down roller which is rotatably mounted between the plates, to hold the paper board down and prevent curling or warping as the fold construction is formed.
Abstract:
An improved slotter wheel apparatus (10) designed for use in the formation of box blanks is disclosed. The apparatus (10) includes a rotatable drive shaft (22), a slotter blade (16) supported on the drive shaft (22) and blade coupling structure (20). The slotter blade coupling structure (20) is operable for selectively coupling the slotter blade (16) with the rotating drive shaft (22) so that the slotter blade (16) is rotated by the shaft (22) and slots blanks passing under the apparatus (10). The slotter blade coupling structure (20) is also operable for selectively decoupling the slotter blade (16) from the drive shaft (22) to prevent the slotter blade (16) from slotting blanks passing under the apparatus (10). In a preferred construction of the invention, the slotter blade coupling structure (20) includes a clutch assembly (76), a brake assembly (78), and a controller (82) for controlling the operation of the clutch and brake assemblies.
Abstract:
Corrugated paperboard box blanks are formed with corner fold lines defined by a colinear slit and score. The score deflects one slit edge of the liner out of the plane of the blank such that, when a subsequent lateral fold is made on the line, one slit edge tucks consistently under the other along the full length of the fold line. The resultant box blanks fold more squarely than prior art folded boxes with no significant loss in the compressive strength of the box.
Abstract:
An improved triple wall corrugated paper board fold construction is formed by joining a single face web with a nonadhered band of the medium to a contiguous liner of another one of the single face webs, slitting and removing a portion of the nonadhered band along a narrow bending area, and removing the slit strip to leave a bending groove formed with one or more score lines in the material underlying the groove, as the board continuously moves along a path of travel.
Abstract:
Apparatus for selectively forming a continuously moving web (5) with apertures or holes by means of a punching mechanism consisting of a rotating die (26) and a rotating punch (14) and with venting pinholes by means of a rotating needle bar (34) and a rotating abutment (13). The die (26) or punch (14) and the needle bar (34) are secured to a common shaft (28). The punch (14) or die (26) for cooperating with the die (26) or punch (14) on the common shaft (28) is secured to a first shaft (11) on the opposite side of the web (5). The abutment (13) for cooperating with the needle bar (34) is secured to a second shaft (12) disposed on the opposite side of the web (5). The first and second shafts (11, 12) are movably mounted in pivoted mounting arms (9, 10), which can be fixed in position. A rotation of the first and second shafts (11, 12) will either move the punch (14) or die (26) into engagement with the die (26) or punch (14) or will move the needle bar (31) into engagement with the abutment (13).
