摘要: An optical fiber cutting device is configured so that a disk-like blade member is moved in a state, in which the blade member is pushed against a glass fiber part of an optical fiber, to form a flaw on a surface of the glass fiber part. The blade member is turned by a feed roller in synchronization with a movement operation of the blade member that rotates by a contact friction force generated when the blade member is put into contact with a contact member fixedly provided halfway a movement path of the blade member.

摘要: A sawing apparatus for cutting dove-tail notches in boards includes at least one saw for cutting one or more back cuts of the dove-tail notch and at least one saw for cutting one or more head cuts of the dove-tail notch. The head saw is configured to be able to cut head cuts that are angled both with respect to a horizontal plane and a vertical plane that is generally parallel to one of the sides of the board. This type of head cut creates a Scandinavian or Finnish dove-tail notch. The sawing apparatus may be mounted on a towable trailer, may include a generator for powering the saws, and may utilize band saws for cutting the dove-tail notches.

摘要: A sheathed optical fiber cutting method and apparatus for cutting the sheathed optical fiber. In one embodiment, the sheathed optical fiber is rotated around its center axis against a cutting blade. An incision is made in an area of the sheathed optical fiber that is under tension from being bent. The incision makes a cut that is flat and perpendicular to the axis of the optical fiber. In one embodiment, the blade for making the incision is mounted in a vibration generator.

摘要: Method and apparatus for skullcap and other bone cutting during autopsy. A power driven rotary cutter in the form of a circular blade saw is mounted on a carrier which moves around the skull of the cadaver and permits the cutter to move radially, toward and away from the axis of the skull. A follower which engages the skull controls the depth of cut so that only the skull bone is cut without damage to the brain tissue in the skull. The cutter is driven by a cable from a remote motor to minimize the weight of the cutter assembly on the carrier. The casing in which the cutter is mounted can be a handpiece of a cable driven tool. The cutter can also be used manually by removing the handpiece from the carrier. Power to the cutter is controlled so that the cutter cuts only bone and stops when soft tissue is engaged by the cutter, which avoids serious damage to soft tissue, and also avoids serious injury to the user if the blade slips.

摘要: In order to stress relieve exposed portions of plastic welds, and thereby reduce susceptibility of such welds to solvent-induced crazing and cracking, the welded parts are formed with flanges extending outwardly therefrom. These flanges are at least partially joined during welding, their adjoining surfaces providing at least a portion of the welded joint. After welding, the flanges are compressed in a direction transverse to their adjoining welded surfaces, the compression being of sufficient magnitude to exceed the yield strength of the flanges, thereby relieving stresses in the exposed portion of the welds. The flanges may be sheared, as by a blade which provides both transverse compressive forces and compressive forces in the direction of the adjoining welded surfaces. The flanges may be sheared through, so as to enable the sheared off end to be removed, or the shearing may penetrate only through the weld zone, providing a notch, but leaving the flanges in place. The compressed and/or sheared flanges provide an exposed portion of the welds in which tensile stresses are relieved, reducing susceptibility to solvent-induced crazing or cracking, and thereby edge sealing the welds.

摘要: A tape (100) is transported by a continuous strip of backing paper (102) along a tape guide (22) into position for the tape (100) to be cut by a blade (12). The tape guide (22) has an essentially flat center portion (24) and opposite side portions (28) that are inclined toward blade (12) relative to center portion (24). Side portions (28) are preferably smoothly curved. Side portions (28) guide the lateral edges of the tape (100) and paper (102) to bend toward blade (12) when a lateral cut is being made. This allows a cut of essentially constant depth to completely sever tape (100), including any fibers (106) that have come loose from the edges of paper (102), without severing paper (102).

摘要: Apparatus is disclosed for slicing or scoring bakery products which comprises a stationary horizontal bed over which muffins or other bakery products are sequentially moved at high speed. Movement of the muffins is effected by first and second endless conveyor belts, each having a flight disposed adjacent the stationary bed and in opposition to the other. A hold down plate is suspended in overlying relation to the stationary bed, so that travel of the bakery products is bounded on the top and bottom by stationary surfaces, and on the sides by the conveyor belts. A disc cutting blade rotating at high speed projects into this travel space (in the preferred embodiment, one of the conveyor belts comprises dual belts which are spaced apart to permit projection of the blade therebetween), and the scoring or slicing function occurs as the bakery products move sequentially in slicing engagement with the rotating blade. The blade operates in a plane that is substantially parallel with the stationary bed and spaced above it an amount which determines the position of the slice on the product. Circular bakery products such as English muffins are controllably rotated as they pass through the disc cutting blade. This is accomplished by operating one conveyor belt in the forward direction and the other conveyor belt in the opposite direction, so that the muffins move forward sequentially at a predetermined linear speed and rotated at the same time, both as a function of belt speed differential. Means are provided for adjusting both the depth of the cut into the product as well as the position of the cut in the product.
