摘要: An apparatus and method for printing graphic images by laser thermal transfer uses a laser source and a programmable pulse generator to transmit a pulsed infrared laser beam in accordance with a printing program of image data to print graphic images on sheet material. The pulsed laser beam is transmitted through a focusing lens, and the focused beam is in turn scanned by a scanning device through a laser window assembly into an ink web along a line of laser impingement. The ink web contains a layer of printing ink and overlies the sheet material supported on a roller platen. The laser window presses the ink web into the sheet material against the roller platen along the line of laser impingement to facilitate the transfer of ink from the web to the sheet in accordance with the printing program of image data. The focusing lens and laser window are highly transmissive at the selected wavelength of the laser beam to permit the passage of substantially all radiation into the layer of printing ink along the line of laser impingement.

摘要: In an optical printing system for printing an image on a recording sheet, adopted as the recording sheet is a sheet coated with microcapsules on one surface thereon. Each microcapsule envelopes a first component which changes color when reacts with a second component. The second component may be coated on the recording sheet or may be coated on a separate developing sheet. The microcapsule further envelopes a third component which varies the mechanical strength of microcapsule when light is projected thereto. An image is formed on the recording sheet by selectively exposing a light thereto in accordance with the image to be printed thereon, and the microcapsules on the recording sheet whose mechanical strength is low are then ruptured by rupturing means. Thereby, the visible image is developed. The exposing is carried out by repeating a predetermined-period exposure at a predetermined interval against the same portion of the recording sheet. The printing operation of the printing system is executed by control means in accordance with a predetermined sequence.

摘要: Direct thermal recording media are designed to operate based on a thermally-induced change of state rather than a thermally-induced chemical reaction between a leuco dye and an acidic developer. The media use two types of scattering particles, one of which changes its state from solid to liquid during printing, and the other of which does not. The former particles, upon melting, fill spaces between the latter particles, thus eliminating or substantially reducing light scattering, which makes an underlying colorant visible at selected print locations where heat is locally applied. The latter, higher melting point particles have a caged morphology and comprise perforated particles. The media can provide high quality thermally-produced images at print speeds at least as high as 10 inches per second (ips).

摘要: An image-forming system has an image-forming sheet, and a printer for forming an image on the sheet. The sheet has a sheet of paper, and a layer of microcapsule, coated over the paper sheet, that contains a plurality of microcapsules filled with a dye. A shell wall of each microcapsule is composed of a resin exhibiting a pressure/temperature characteristic such that, when each microcapsule is squashed under a predetermined pressure at a predetermined temperature, the dye seeps from the squashed microcapsule. The microcapsules are covered with an infrared absorbent coating that-absorbs infrared rays having a specific wavelength. The printer has a transparent glass plate, and a roller platen elastically pressed against the plate at the predetermined pressure, with the sheet being interposed between the plate and the platen. Further, the printer has an optical scanner for scanning the layer of microcapsules with an infrared beam having the specific wavelength, such that the microcapsules, irradiated by the infrared beam, are heated to the predetermined temperature.

摘要: Information is recorded on a heat-sensitive recording material including a photo-thermo conversion agent which converts supplied light energy into heat energy, a developing agent and a color forming agent which is encapsuled in micro-capsules whose permeability to materials increases with increase in said heat energy and forms a color by reaction with the developing agent. The photo-thermo conversion agent is localized in and/or on the micro-capsules. The heat-sensitive recording material is heated by supplying the heat-sensitive recording material with heat energy less than energy necessary to cause the heat-sensitive recording material to form a color. A light beam modulated according to the information to be recorded is caused to scan the recording material.

摘要: Laser color printers include multiple laser sources formed of either diode lasers or laser diode arrays emitting light beams of different wavelengths, and an optical arrangement. The optical arrangement independently processes each of the light beams to provide a separate predetermined sized collimated light beam, and then focuses and scans the light beams over a printing media that prints separate colors for each different wavelength of light. Where different sized collimated light beams are required to match a printing media, a separate zoom lens is used is used in the optical arrangement to independently reshape each of two orthogonal cross-sectional directions of a separate one of the light beams before being properly sized at the output thereof. Where only one of the two orthogonal cross-sectional directions of the light beams has to be reshaped, the light beams are collimated and combined and pass through a beam shaper which reshapes that cross-sectional direction of the light beams before the light beams are focused and scanned over the printing media. Where laser diode arrays are used to generate separate wavelength light beams, each of the light beams from the lasers of an array are formed and focused into a linear array of spots on the printing media.
