摘要: It is an object is to improve the cleaning effect, to reduce the cleaning time, and to reduce the consumption of cleaning water during cleaning of an inside of an ink chamber of a flexographic printing machine. For cleaning an ink chamber 20, purge air “a” is supplied from pipes 46a-b to the ink chamber 20, and an ink “f” is collected from an ink supply pipe 26 and an ink recovery pipe 36 to an ink can 30. Subsequently, cleaning water “w” is supplied from the pipes 46a-b to the ink chamber 20, as well as defining a cleaning water circulatory passage 44 constructed from a three-way valve 24, an ink supply port 22, the ink chamber 20, excessive ink recovery ports 32, the ink recovery pipe 36, and a connecting pipe 40 for circulating cleaning water “w” through the circulatory passage 44 to clean inside the ink chamber 20. At the same time, compressed air “a” is supplied from a compressed air supply pipe 424 of an air gun 42 to generate bubbles in the cleaning water “w”, thereby improving the cleaning effect on the ink chamber 20 by the agitating action and the turbulent flow generating action of the bubbles.

摘要: A printing press having a keyless inking system. The inking system includes a single form roller for applying ink to a printing plate, and a transfer roller adjacent the form roller for removing excess ink from the form roller. A subtractive roller adjacent the transfer roller removes excess ink from the transfer roller, and a scraper blade adjacent the subtractive roller scrapes excess ink from said subtractive roller. An ink reservoir adjacent the scraper blade receives ink scraped from the subtractive roller, and supplies ink for application onto the form roller. An applicator roller adjacent the ink reservoir receives ink from the ink reservoir, and applies the ink to the form roller.

摘要: An apparatus for coating a strip of liquid material such as a polymer adhesive onto the surface of a traveling web at adjustable cross-directional locations which includes a transfer roll secured to a drive shaft coupled hub by an asymmetric rim plate. A carrier sleeve is secured to the hub by anti-friction bearings for independent rotation about the axis of the drive shaft. A fountain housing is secured to the carrier sleeve. The fountain housing supports a fountain nozzle for pressurized discharge of a fluid onto the perimeter surface of the transfer roll within an evacuated cavity. The cavity perimeter around the fountain nozzle has a close, sealing proximity with the transfer roll surface. An adjustable doctor blade screeds excess liquid on the transfer roll surface into the evacuated cavity for removal by a vacuum system. The apparatus significantly reduces the emissions of volatile fluids to the atmosphere during the coating process.

摘要: An on demand ink mixing system for a flexographic or similar printer utilizes a chambered doctor blade with a chamber divided by a flexible bladder to form ink chamber and a pressure chamber. Ink use is coordinated with print run length, and ink mixing and the collapse of the ink chamber to essentially zero volume are coordinated to coincide with the end of the run. The flexible bladder is also utilized in the operation of the ink cleaning system to move cleaning solution through all portions of the supply system and printer contaminated by ink mixed for the run.

摘要: A method for recovery of printing ink wastes is provided which greatly minimizes pollution problems attendant to the disposal of ink wastes, while permitting formulation of usable ink products from the wastes. The method involves first creating a flowable stream of material including the ink wastes, and directing this stream to a hydroheater (16) along with incoming steam. In the hydroheater (16), the ink wastes are subjected to elevated temperatures and pressures, and intense shear, creating a homogeneous, flowable output. This output may then be dried and powdered, and the powder may be reconstituted as a black ink suitable for commercial printing operations. If desired, the hydroheater (16) output may be treated in a filter press (252) to obtain a filter cake (258), and this cake (258) may be subsequently subdivided and treated with ink carriers to form a processing ink. In a preferred embodiment, dilute printer washup material containing up to 5% by weight residual ink therein may be directly processed in the hydroheater (16); this eliminates the need for preliminary chemical treatment and sludge formation.

摘要: This method to allow the use of low VOC (volatile organic compounds) solvents in blanket cleaning operations and the resultant product that is produced by this method involves the retrofitting of currently existing seals on printing press so that operators can use low VOC solvents in place of high VOC solvents. High VOC solvents are harmful to the atmosphere and humans alike. As VOC are lighter than the surrounding air, humans are subjected to inhalation of these harmful vapors which cause respiratory and other health ailments. The VOC continue to rise, mixing with nitrogen oxides, until they reach the troposphere forming thick layers of ozone or smog. The current movement of municipalities to limit the use of high VOC solvents have lead printers and others to use low VOC solvents which are inherently less evaporative than high VOC solvents. This lack of evaporation causes problems with having to handle greater volumes of waste to handle and dispose properly. Catch pans and basins designed to work in high VOC applications are insufficiently engineered to handle this increased waste and seals that are sized to fit the catch pans and basins are designed to be permeable to allow for the evaporation of the VOC. This method creates an impermeable seal with similar sizing to retrofit the existing seal allowing the user to simply change the seal versus changing the entire catch pan.
