Abstract: A foldable pneumatic tire including an annular tread and sidewalls each extending from both ends of the tread and terminating in bead portions, the sidewalls adapted to be folded axially inwardly toward each other to be collapsed within the tread. The foldable tire located in a mold for vulcanization comprises the bead portions each extending perpendicular to a rotating axis of the tire and having a height 1.2 to 2.0 times of that of a flange of a rim, and each the sidewall consisting of first and second sidewalls making an angle with each other between 140.degree. and 160.degree., and an outer surface of the second sidewall radially inwardly sloping at an angle of 0.degree. to 5.degree. to the rotating axis. The tire according to the invention is superior in foldability and can be attached to the rim with ease and is greatly useful for a spare tire for automobiles.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a pneumatic tire which when inflated has dimensions generally associated with a conventional pneumatic tire but when deflated has an outer diameter and a section width substantially the same, and in any event not substantially greater, than the maximum width and diameter of the rim on which the tire is mounted. The tire is built by the flat band method of construction and is molded at least substantially in the cylindrical shape in which it was built. The sidewalls are sufficiently flexible that they may be folded into an S-shape and underneath the tread when the tire is deflated. Abstract: A bead of a tire comprises a pair of beads interiorly inserted with a plurality of annular members, and the annular members are mutually parallel. Each of the annular members is made of a plurality of flexible steel cords twisted together, and the diameter of the respective flexible steel cords ranging from 0.05 mm to 1.0 mm. The tire is flexible and can be folded/rolled into a compact package for easy transportation and storage. In addition, a reinforcing member is made of cotton or other materials and can be rounded with the annular member for improving the joint strength of the flexible steel cords.

Abstract: An elastomeric article and a composite cord for reinforcing an elastomeric article. The cord comprises a core spirally wrapped by at least one high tenacity, substantially inextensible yarn. Abstract: This disclosure related to a pneumatic tire which is collapsible in its uninflated shape. This disclosure relates to a pneumatic tire and the rim combination of the pneumatic tire and a rim wherein the bead areas of the tire are capable of rotating in their mounted, uninflated shape to attain a different configuration in their mounted, inflated shape. The tire may have the characteristic wherein the sidewalls are capable of being folded axially inwardly toward each other when the tire is mounted on the rim and uninflated. In the uninflated and folded shape the tire and the combination of the tire and rim of this disclosure conserve space and weight over a standard tire and tire and rim combination. This uninflated, folded feature is designed primarily to be used as a spare tire replacement in automobiles.
