    摘要: A fluid pressure braking system for a tractor-trailer vehicle in which the braking system of the tractor is connected to the braking system of the trailer through trailer control and trailer supply lines includes a relay valve which controls communication between service reservoirs on the tractor and the trailer control line in response to operation of the vehicle brake valve. Use of the relay valve to control the communication to the trailer control line permits greater volumes of air to be supplied to the trailer control line, thereby appreciably reducing transmission times of brake application signals.

    摘要: A vehicle brake system for an arrangement having a prime mover and at least one tandem trailer. The system includes a respective sub-system for the prime mover and each tandem trailer and each sub-system has a plurality of spring brakes which are held out of a park mode by pressurized air in a hold-back chamber and are caused to operate in a normal manner by pressurized air supplied to a service chamber. Each sub-system includes a service relay valve which is operable to connect pressurized air with the service chambers of the respective spring brakes and the prime mover sub-system includes a control relay valve which is operable to cause operation of the service relay valves of that sub-system and the adjacent tandem trailer sub-system. If there are two or more tandem trailers, each tandem trailer sub-system apart from the last includes a control relay valve and each succeeding control relay valve is operated as a consequence of operation of the control relay valve of the respective preceding sub-system.

    摘要: Apparatus for varying the time between the initiation and subsequent release of an emergency brake application on a locomotive and train of cars hauled thereby comprises either fluid pressure operated valve means operable, by fluid under pressure supplied for causing knockout of the locomotive power supply, to establish communication between two reservoirs, separably charged from the train brake pipe, whereby substantially all of the fluid under pressure must be released from both reservoirs to atmosphere via a first restricted communication prior to the release of an emergency application thereby increasing the time between initiating the emergency application and the subsequent release, or fluid pressure operated valve means operably responsively to power knockout to establish another restricted communication between a single reservoir and atmosphere whereby substantially all of the fluid under pressure must be released from the single reservoir to atmosphere via the two restricted communications simultaneously prior to the release of an emergency application thereby decreasing the time between initiating the emergency application and the subsequent release thereof.

    摘要: A valve-arrangement is operable to switch between a bistable-valve (BV) behavior and a relay-valve (RV) behavior to control a parking-brake, and includes a housing with a supply-pressure-inlet (SPI), a service brake-control-inlet (SBCI) to provide a control-pressure, a pressure-outlet, and an exhaust-port, and includes a first-piston and a second-piston both movable along a same direction in the housing to define a first-chamber communicating with the SBCI, a second-chamber between the first-piston and the second-piston, and third chamber communicating with the pressure-outlet and with a controllable connection to the SPI, in which upon the control-pressure the second-piston moves with the first-piston to connect the pressure-outlet with the exhaust-port or with the SPI. The valve arrangement includes a throttle unit adapted, depending on the control-pressure, to connect the second-chamber with the third-chamber to enable the BV behavior or disconnect the second-chamber from the third-chamber to enable the RV behavior.

    摘要: A brake pipe charging cut-off arrangement for a locomotive air brake in which a rate sensing valve responds to an emergency rate of reduction of brake pipe pressure to vent the control chamber of an actuating valve. This causes the actuating valve to be positioned to connect pressure to the brake pipe cut-off valve of the locomotive brake valve device to interrupt charging of the brake pipe. Following a predetermined time delay of such duration as to assure a complete halt of the train by the resulting emergency brake application, the rate sensing valve automatically resets to terminate venting of the actuating valve control chamber. The actuating valve is then conditioned to be reset on the lead unit by movement of the brake valve handle to emergency position. On a trail unit, a unique arrangement of double check valves sense the proper operating condition of a trail unit brake valve device to automatically reset the actuating valve.
