The method includes utilizing computer application software installed on a mobile device having conventional smart phone hardware to record data signatures, and in return, displaying performance metrics back to a user in a meaningful way, The computer application software is operable to record data obtained by conventional smart phone hardware such as, but not limited to, an accelerometer, GPS receiver, tilt sensor, and radiometer. The method further includes reviewing the performance metrics displayed by the computer application software, and in response to reviewing the metrics, making adjustments to improve one's performance while participating in subsequent action sports activities.
