Abstract:
A compound, which is 1-(1,3-bis(methylthio)propoxy)-3-(methylthio)propan-1-ol, a composition containing the compound, a method for the preparation thereof, a method for preparing 3-methylthiopropionaldehyde by reacting 1-(1,3-bis(methylthio)propoxy)-3-(methylthio)propan-1-ol with acrolein, and also to the use of 1-(1,3-bis(methylthio)propoxy)-3-(methylthio)propan-1-ol or compositions containing the compound for the storage and/or transport of 3-methylthiopropionaldehyde and/or methyl mercaptan.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for crystallizing D,L-methionine from aqueous solutions and/or suspensions containing D,L-methionine and D,L-methionine ammonium salts, having a Met content of 70-180 g/kg, an NH4+ content of 1-5 g/kg, in the presence of a crystallization additive, which comprises a nonionic or anionic surfactant or a mixture of various nonionic or anionic surfactants, in which the temperature of the solution and/or suspension is lowered directly or stepwise from T1=85-110° C. to T2=30-50° C., so that D,L-methionine precipitates as a solid.
Abstract:
A composition based on dimethyl disulphide (DMDS) with a masked smell according to the invention comprises, by weight, at least 95% of DMDS, less than 500 ppm of methyl mercaptan, less than 100 ppm of dimethylsulphide and up to 1% of at least one odor-masking agent.
Abstract:
A process for stabilizing and deodorizing a raw organic polysulfide by treating it with an alkylene carbonate in the presence of a basic catalyst and, optionally, a sulfur donor.
Abstract:
Odor formation during storage of (hydrocarbylthio)aromatic amines due to formation and release of odoriferous sulfur-containing species such as dihydrocarbyldisulfides, is suppressed. To accomplish this, a small amount of N,N-dihydrocarbylhydroxylamine odor-inhibitor (e.g., N,N-diethylhydroxylamine) is blended with the (hydrocarbylthio)aromatic amine. This enables products such as a mixture of 3,5-di(methylthio)-2,4-diaminotoluene and 3,5-di(methylthio)-2,6-diaminotoluene) to be stored for long periods of time with significantly reduced formation and release of odoriferous sulfur-containing species.
Abstract:
A composition which comprises a major amount of an organic polysulfide and an odor-masking amount of an odor-masking compound selected from the group consisting of wintergreen, cinnamons, vanillins, terpenes, sesquiterpenes, and combinations of any two or more thereof is provided wherein the composition has a more pleasant odor than the organic polysulfide.
Abstract:
An amino/phenolic composition effective for enhancing the storage stability of aldehydes, particularly sulfur-containing aliphatic aldehydes of low molecular weight, i.e., those containing from 3 to 10 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
Inhibition of the formation of color bodies and color-forming materials and other contaminants and/or decolorization of discolored sulfur-containing organic compounds containing divalent sulfur by addition of a small amount of oxalic acid.
Abstract:
A PROCESS WHICH COMPRISES CONTACTING POLYHENYL THIOETHERS WITH A METAL SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF GROUP IB AND IIB OF THE PERIODIC TABLE THEREBY IMPROVING THE OXIDATIVE STABILITY OF SUCH THIOETHERS AND DECREASING THEIR CORROSIVENESS METALS. FOR EXAMPLE, M-BIS (PHENYLMERCAPTO) BENZENE IS MIXED WITH COPPER POWDER AND HEATED TO IMPROVE ITS OXIDATIVE STABILITY.
