    摘要: There is provided a process for purifying a fatty acid, which process comprises reacting a fatty acid with a lithium salt in a first solution and under conditions to allow formation of a precipitate of a lithium salt of the fatty acid; isolating the precipitate; dissolving the precipitate in a second solution followed by separation of the organic and aqueous layers so formed; and evaporating the organic layer to isolate the purified fatty acid. There is also provided a process for increasing the length of a fatty acid, and the use of a lithium salt to purify a fatty acid.

    摘要: The oligomerization of certain carboxylic acids and alkyl esters derived from natural oils is disclosed. This includes the oligomerization of C10-17 unsaturated carboxylic acids such as 9-decenoic acid, where the oligomerization yields a mixture of mono-, di- and tri-carboxylic acids. This also includes the oligomerization of certain alkyl esters, including the oligomerization of C10-17 unsaturated alkyl esters such as methyl 9-decenoate (9-DAME), where the oligomerization yields a mixture of mono-, di- and tri-carboxylic acid esters. Various end use applications for the oligomerized carboxylic acids and oligomerized alkyl esters are also disclosed.

    摘要: Seeds, plants and oils are provided having high oleic acid; low linoleic acid; and low linoleic acid plus linolenic acid; and advantageous functional or nutritional properties. Plants are disclosed that contain a mutation in a delta-12 or delta-15 fatty acid desaturase gene. Preferred plants are rapeseed and sunflower plants. Plants carrying such mutant genes have altered fatty acid composition in seeds. In one embodiment, a plant contains a mutation in a region having the conserved motif His-Xaa-Xaa-Xaa-His, found in delta-12 and delta-15 fatty acid desaturases. A preferred motif has the sequence His-Glu-Cys-Gly-His. A preferred mutation in this motif has the amino acid sequence His-Lys-Cys-Gly-His. Nucleic acid fragments are disclosed that comprise a mutant delta-12 or delta-15 fatty acid desaturase gene sequence.
