Abstract: An insulation system includes roof sheathing panels, spaced apart structural members, a plurality of pins, insulation support material, and insulation. The plurality of pins are secured to the roof sheathing panels, the structural members, or both. The insulation support material is connected to the pins to form an insulation cavity below the roof sheathing panels and below the structural members. Insulation is disposed on the insulation support material, between the spaced apart structural members and directly under the bottommost surfaces of the structural members.

Abstract: Insulation spacer devices, methods and related construction techniques are provided. An exemplary device may include a body having a plurality of openings defining an openwork, to allow the passage of air therethrough when placed in contact with insulation material. The device may further include a plurality of spacer struts and/or spacing depressions fixedly attached to the body. The struts may be configured to maintain a predetermined distance between a first side of the insulation material and a building surface. The body and struts act together to define and maintain a space between the first side of the insulation material and the building surface, for example, for ventilation. The building surface can be the bottom face of a roof, an insulated attic floor, wall sheathing or a soundproofed demising wall, for example. The spacer device can be capable of being transported and stored together with, or as a separate item from, the insulation material, and can also be stored in nested layers. The device can also be stored in rolled form. The openwork of the device can additionally or alternatively include a sheet of Entangled net filaments or other similar material.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and apparatuses for an improved air barrier system for use in residential or commercial buildings. An individual practicing the method, or an apparatus configured to practice the concepts disclosed herein, would insert an insulated envelope between joists located in a joist bay of a building, where the insulated envelope has a flap and the insulated envelope envelopes insulation. The user places the flap over insulation previously distributed on a floor of the joist bay, and applies an air impermeable coating over at least a portion of the flap of the insulation. By inserting the insulated envelope and applying an air impermeable coating over a flap and pre-existing insulation, the ability for attic vents to wind-wash conditioned air out of fiberous insulation is diminished.

Abstract: This invention provides fail protection systems comprising a suspension fabric, supported by a grid-work of longitudinal and lateral bands, in metal building construction. The fall protection system uses the combination of relatively softer banding, a safety band spaced a particular distance from each rafter, and safety clips to attach the safety bands to the intermediate purlins, thus to distribute the force of impact of a load, falling close to a rafter, to better absorb and dissipate the force of the impact, including distributing the impact of the failing load over a greater area of the roof structure. The invention further provides methods of making elements of such systems, methods of installing elements of such systems, and buildings embodying such systems.

Abstract: A seamless sheet installation system preferably includes a seamless sheet and a plurality of sheet retention devices. The seamless sheet is retained on a tube. A pair of rotating retention devices may be inserted into ends of the roll. Each rolling retention device includes a tube plug and a rotating handle. An end of the seamless sheet is secured to the top eave flange. The seamless sheet is held against a bottom of the eave purlin web with one of the plurality of sheet retention devices. The sheet retention device may have any suitable design. The seamless sheet is rolled out to successive purlins, wrapped over the top flange and anchored to a bottom of the vertical web with one of the plurality of sheet retention devices. The seamless sheet wrapping process is terminated at an opposing eave purlin or a ridge purlin. Insulation is then inserted between adjacent purlins.
