    Abstract: An exhaust system includes a plurality of cylinders, and each cylinder includes a scavenge exhaust valve and a blowdown exhaust valve. A scavenge path leads from the scavenge exhaust valves and a blowdown path leads from the blowdown exhaust valves. An arrangement activates and deactivates the scavenge exhaust valves and the blowdown exhaust valves. Further included is a cam shaft including a plurality of scavenge cams and a plurality of blowdown cams. During rotation of the cam shaft, the scavenge cams interact with the scavenge exhaust valves to open and close the scavenge exhaust valves when the scavenge exhaust valves are activated. Additionally, during rotation of the cam shaft, the blowdown cams interact with the blowdown exhaust valves to open and close the blowdown exhaust valves when the blowdown exhaust valves are activated, and at different times with respect to the opening and closing of the scavenge exhaust valves.

    Abstract: There is provided a variable valve timing system including: a variable valve device; an oil control valve configured to control a hydraulic pressure with respect to the variable valve device; an external pipe connecting a main gallery and the oil control valve; and a hydraulic pressure sensor configured to detect a hydraulic pressure in an oil path formed at the crankcase. The oil control valve is disposed on one side surface of the engine in the vehicle width direction. One end portion of the external pipe is connected to one side of the main gallery in the vehicle width direction. In a bottom view of a vehicle, the one end portion of the external pipe overlaps with the crankcase, and the hydraulic pressure sensor overlaps with the crankcase on one side of the one end portion of the external pipe in the vehicle width direction.

    Abstract: A hydraulically-actuated variable camshaft timing (VCT) system comprises a spool valve including a sleeve and a spool, having a plurality of radially-outwardly extending lands, received within a sleeve; a sleeve fluid pathway, extending axially along the sleeve and formed within the sleeve, configured to receive fluid from a fluid supply; an advancing port in the sleeve in fluid communication with an advancing chamber of a hydraulically-actuated camshaft phaser; a retarding port in the sleeve in fluid communication with a retarding chamber of the hydraulically-actuated camshaft phaser; a first fluid supply port formed in the sleeve; a second fluid supply port formed in the sleeve; and an exhaust port axially positioned in the sleeve in between the first fluid supply port and the second fluid supply port or in between the advancing port and the retarding port, wherein the exhaust port is configured to selectively receive fluid from either the advancing chamber or the retarding chamber depending on an axial position of the spool relative to the sleeve.

    Abstract: An oil passage switching valve suitable for a valve timing changing apparatus includes: a valve body, opening or closing an oil passage of operating oil; an urging spring, urging to position the valve body to a position corresponding to the retard position in a pause state; and a switching element, positioning the valve body to a position corresponding to the retard position when a state quantity of the operating oil is in a first range, and switching a position of the valve body in response to the state quantity (pressure or temperature) of the operating oil while resisting an urging force of the urging spring to position the valve body to a position corresponding to the advance position when the state quantity of the operating oil is in a second range greater than the first range.
