摘要:
A head lamp in which the sub-lamp luminous intensity distribution pattern is designed to control light from a discharge bulb by a plurality of reflective surface elements constituting the reflective surface of a reflector even in such a state that the reflector has been subjected to aiming adjustment. A reflective surface element (22As1) which is positioned in the outermost side portion out of a plurality of reflective surface elements (22As) constituting the horizontal cut-line forming area (22A) of a reflector reflective surface (22) has a concave horizontal sectional shape and rays of the light reflected from the reflective surface element (22As1) are made to horizontally cross each other so as to form a luminous intensity distribution pattern (PA1). Thus, the reflector is aimed to the left and with the luminous intensity distribution pattern (PA1) as a leftover luminous intensity distribution pattern on a oblique cut line side with respect to the original luminous intensity distribution pattern when the light reflected from the left-hand end portion of the reflective surface element (22As1) is shaded by an extension (28), part of the hot zone (HZ) of a sublamp luminous intensity distribution pattern (P) is formed therewith.

A vehicular lamp having a combination lamp structure in which the reflectors for a plural number of lamps and an extension reflector are provided in a lamp body, wherein a reflector for at least one lamp of the plural number of lamps and an extension reflector are constructed as a single body. Of the reflectors for the lamps, the reflector fixedly mounted on the lamp body and the extension reflector are preferably constructed as a single body. A specific reflecting portion for reflecting light from a bulb toward a lens area located apart from the bulbs of the lamps is formed as a part of the reflector. For example, a lamp of which the lens is partly extended to the side of a vehicle body, and a specific reflecting portion for reflecting light from the bulb toward a lens area of the lens extending to the side of the vehicle body is formed as a part of the reflector of the lamp.

A lamp including a light source, a petaline reflector, and aspheric lenses. The petaline reflector is formed of a plurality of reflecting surface units combined radially around the center axis of the light source. Each of the reflecting surface units is obtained by cutting, radially around the center axis, a portion from a spheroid having a first focal point located on the center axis and adjacent the light source and a second focal point located on a line passing through the first focal point and tilted appropriately from the center axis such that the cut portion spans a range of 15.degree. to 60.degree. around the center axis. The aspheric lenses are disposed to correspond to the respective second focal points of the reflecting surface units of the petaline reflector and converge reflected light beams from the respective reflecting surface units. Shades for forming a light distribution pattern are disposed at the respective near-focal points of the aspheric lenses.

A reflector for a headlamp is divided into zones depending on the sizes of the light source images produced by the various parts of the reflector. Those parts of the reflector that provide smaller image sizes are used to supply light to the higher intensity parts of the road pattern. This allows greater control over glare and is particularly useful for headlamps having high intensity discharge as a light source. In one embodiment, a larger reflector is trimmed to be smaller and yet to retain portions that provide the small light source images.

A vehicle lamp which includes a reflection mirror, a front lens, and a light source arranged between the reflection mirror and the front lens. The central axis of the light source is perpendicular to the principal optical axis of the reflection mirror. On the reflection mirror, there is formed a reflection surface composed of a large number of reflection steps which are defined by portions of paraboloids of revolution and are formed between adjacent ones of closed curves. The closed curves are obtained as lines of intersection between a fundamental reflection surface and a group of paraboloids of revolution composed of a large number of paraboloids of revolution having different focal distances. Centers of the group of closed curves forming the boundaries of the reflection steps are arranged at a position distant from an intersection at which the principal optical axis of the reflection mirror crosses the reflection mirror, and square lens steps are formed on the front lens. Due to the foregoing, the arrangement of the image of the light source that has been projected by the reflection steps tend to be matched with the sections of the lens steps formed on the front lens.

A headlamp for a motor vehicle has a lamp with an axial filament which emits light all around it, together with a reflector and a cover glass. The reflector produces a beam which is delimited by a cut-off line defined by two half planes which are offset from each other in the vertical direction, and which lie on either side of a vertical reference plane. A first lateral zone of the reflector has a reflective surface which forms a concentrated beam delimited by a straight, horizontal first cut-off line, situated entirely on one side of the vertical reference plane. A second zone of the reflector, extending over the base surface of the latter and on the opposite side, has a reflective surface which produces a wide beam delimited by a straight and horizontal second cut-off line. The reflector also includes means for offsetting the light beam vertically, such as to put the first cut-off line at the level of the higher cut-off half plane, and the two zones of the reflector are joined continuously at their intersection along a continuous line extending between the upper and lower edges of the reflector.

A vehicle headlamp reflector comprises a concave shell having a reflective surface, the shell including multiple vertical panels defining the reflective surface. The panels include at least one panel having therein on the reflective surface multiple vertical ribs defining alternating ridges and grooves. The ridges and grooves are of a rounded configuration, of substantially equal width throughout their lengths, and extend substantially from top to bottom of the panel.

A vehicle lamp includes a shade movable between a light blocking position and a light blocking release position. A light emitting surface of a light emitting element faces one side in a lateral direction and an upper end edge of the light emitting surface extends in a front-rear direction. A reflective surface of a reflector includes a first reflective area and a second reflective area. A low-beam light distribution pattern having a horizontal cut-off line and an oblique cut-off line is formed by a reflected light beam from the first reflective area when the shade is at the light blocking position, and a high-beam light distribution pattern is formed by the reflected light beams from the first reflective area and the second reflective area when the shade is at the light blocking release position.

A motor vehicle headlight reflector and a headlight constructed therefrom, wherein the reflector comprises a plurality of laterally juxtaposed zones bounding transition lines with a break of slope. Each zone has a smooth reflective surface and is adapted to spread light horizontally between two limits obtained in the immediate vicinity of the transition lines. The limits of horizontal spread in each zone varies progressively with displacement along the transition line concerned. The invention also includes a method of making the motor vehicle headlight reflector.

The headlight has a light source (12) which is mounted in a main reflector (10) by which a convergent light beam is reflected, which passes through a lens (16). An additional reflector (22) is arranged surrounding the main reflector (10) between the main reflector (10) and the lens (16), by which light not captured by the main reflector (10) is reflected as an additional light beam with horizontal scattering. The light beam passing through the lens (16) forms a low beam, by which a predetermined low beam light distribution is provided with an upper light-dark boundary. The additional light beam produces an additional uniform light distribution, which overlaps the low-beam light distribution. The headlight illuminates a larger surface than the surface of the lens (16) because of the additional reflector (22) surrounding the main reflector (10) and the lens (16) so that it causes no glare or blinding. The headlight can have a cover disk with a smooth surface without optical elements and thus a uniform appearance.
