Abstract: A wearable device worn by a user is disclosed which includes a plurality of input device interfaces each configured to receive input from a sensor coupled to a user, a controller configured to generate a two-dimensional map of the user's three-dimensional space based on the received inputs, and a plurality of haptic feedback devices disposed on the wearable device, wherein the controller is configured to selectively activate each of the plurality of haptic feedback devices to signal the user's position in the three-dimensional space based on the generated two-dimensional map as the user moves in the three-dimensional space.

Abstract: A navigation system for aiding a human navigating, the navigation system includes a belt having a belt length and opposite belt ends, and includes an elongated compartment; a belt coupling arranged to the belt for coupling the belt ends; a compass sensor arranged to the belt and for sensing the compass direction based on the earth's magnetic field; a tactile unit arranged for tactile communicating a direction to the human; additional tactile actuators arranged to the belt and for communicating a direction to the human. The additional tactile actuators are distributed over the length of the belt. An elongated mesh is provided for arranging the elongated mesh inside the elongated compartment, the additional tactile actuators being arranged to the mesh. A processing unit is configured for controlling the navigation system.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage devices for providing directions haptically such that sight and hearing can continue unimpeded. In one exemplary embodiment, a wearable device (such as earphones, ear rings, gloves, glasses, or other wearable objects) configured as disclosed herein receives directions to an intended destination for a user, the directions comprising a movement action and a distance to the movement action. The wearable device has multiple haptic output units and generates, through one of those units, a haptic output based on the directions. This allows the user to receive the directions through touch rather than looking at their mobile device or from audio.

Abstract: A device for providing spatial information to a user. The device includes a camera configured to detect image data. The device also includes an accelerometer configured to determine step data. The device also includes a processor connected to the camera and the accelerometer and configured to determine a distance travelled per step of the user based on the image data and the step data. The processor is also configured to determine a distance to a reference point based on the image data. The processor is also configured to determine a number of steps corresponding to the distance to the reference point based on the distance travelled per step of the user. The device also includes an output unit connected to the processor and configured to output the spatial information indicating the number of steps corresponding to the distance to the reference point.

Abstract: A wearable neck device includes an IMU coupled to the wearable neck device and adapted to detect inertial measurement data and a GPS coupled to the device and adapted to detect location data. The wearable neck device further includes a camera adapted to detect image data and a memory adapted to store data. The wearable neck device further includes a processor adapted to recognize an object in the surrounding environment by analyzing the data. The processor can determine a desirable action based on the data and a current time or day. The processor can determine a destination based on the determined desirable action. The processor can determine a navigation path based on the determined destination and the data. The processor is further adapted to determine output based on the navigation path. The wearable neck device further includes a speaker adapted to provide audio information to the user.

Abstract: A method for providing directions to a blind user of a smart device is described. The method includes detecting, by at least two sensors and in response to a selection of a find mode of the smart device, image data corresponding to a surrounding environment of the smart device and positioning data corresponding to a positioning of the smart device. The method also includes receiving, by an input device, the desired object or the desired location. The method also includes determining, by a processor, the initial location of the smart device based on the image data, the positioning data and map data stored in a memory of the smart device. The method also includes providing, by the output device, the directions to the desired object based on the initial location of the smart device and the map data.

Abstract: Among other things, one or more client devices, techniques, and/or systems are provided for providing linear route conditions. A linear route condition interface, presented to a user, may comprise a linear route representation (e.g., represented by a horizontal or vertical bar) of a route from a starting location to a destination location. The linear route representation depicts a first road segment, populated with a traffic flow indicator, a second road segment, populated with a second traffic flow indicator, and/or any other number of road segments between the starting location and the destination location. Responsive to identifying user indication of interest for the first road segment, supplementary information about traffic conditions on the first road segment are presented to the user. Responsive to identifying user indication of interest for the second road segment, supplementary information about traffic conditions on the second road segment are presented to the user.
