    摘要: A first chromium mass concentration and a first reference mass concentration are extracted from a first test substance made by adding a predetermined amount of calcium to a predetermined amount of pellets; a reference value is calculated on the basis thereof. A second chromium mass concentration and a second reference mass concentration are extracted from a second test substance made by adding, to a predetermined amount of the substance contained in the molded part, an amount of calcium identical to the amount added to the pellets; a comparative value is calculated on the basis thereof. A screw can be determined to have wear whenever the comparative value is not less than a numerical value 60 times that of the reference value, whereas the screw can be determined not to have wear whenever the comparative value is less than a numerical value 60 times that of the reference value.

    摘要: A method and apparatus are provided for measuring the crushing strength of an abrasive, comprising particles, used in a lapping process. Embodiments include a crushing strength tester having a cup for holding the abrasive; a first motor for rotating the cup in a first direction; a piston having a face for rotatably fitting within the cup and contacting the abrasive; a second motor for rotating the piston in a second direction opposite the first direction; and a press for pressing the piston against the abrasive and crushing the particles while the first and second motors are rotating. An initial particle size distribution for the particles is determined, then the abrasive is subjected to a crushing force approximately equal to that of the lapping process using the crushing strength tester. A post-crushing particle size distribution for the particles is determined, and the initial and post-crushing particle size distributions are compared.

    摘要: There is provided an apparatus (LCPA) for measuring a load applied to a quantity of material. The LCPA includes a load cell assembly sandwiched between an inner plate and an outer plate. The load cell assembly measures the load applied to the quantity of material when a force is exerted against the outer plate. Preferably, the load cell assembly includes three equally spaced apart load cells. In one aspect, the LCPA is a part of a gyratory compactor such that the LCPA measures the load applied to a paving material test specimen when a ram exerts a force against the outer plate during the compaction and gyration process. In one aspect, the location of the resultant force exerted by the ram on the specimen is calculated so that the performance of the test specimen may be evaluated. In one aspect, the shear resistance of the specimen is calculated based in part on the location of the resultant force so that a prediction can be made as to whether a particular paving material is suitable for actual field applications.

    摘要: An apparatus and a method is disclosed for determining the crushing strength of pellets of a powdered material by compressing individual pellets between one pellet-contacting face on a force-exerting means and another pellet-contacting face on a force-measuring transducer. The transducer provides an output current at a voltage which varies in correspondence to the compressive force that is applied to a pellet during the crushing thereof. Accordingly, a pellet is first placed between the aforesaid pellet-contacting faces and the force exerting means is then driven toward the transducer at a controlled rate for compression and crushing of the pellet. Current voltage from the transducer is recorded permanently on a chart or else temporarily by means of a peak voltage remembering module in conjunction with a voltmeter having a digital read-out.
