Abstract: Methods and systems for monitoring use, determining risk, and pricing insurance policies for a vehicle having one or more autonomous or semi-autonomous operation features are provided. According to certain aspects, the operating status of the features, the identity of a vehicle operator, risk levels for operation of the vehicle by the vehicle operator, or damage to the vehicle may be determined based upon sensor or other data. According to further aspects, decisions regarding transferring control between the features and the vehicle operator may be made based upon sensor data and information regarding the vehicle operator. Additional aspects may recommend or install updates to the autonomous operation features based upon determined risk levels. Some aspects may include monitoring transportation infrastructure and communicating information about the infrastructure to vehicles.

Abstract: A radar system for vital signs monitoring such as at least heart rate or breathing and a method for mitigating random body movement and external interference effects in vital signs monitoring such as at least heart rate or breathing by employing a radar system that is configured for providing in-phase and quadrature signals from reflected and received radar waves are provided. The problem of random body movement effects and external interference affecting vital signs monitoring is at least mitigated by decomposing and filtering a reconstructed displacement signal using a time and frequency analysis technique such as Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT), followed by a Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) operation. This decomposition allows the identification of time and frequency basis components containing the random body movement interference. Hence, the filtered signal can be reconstructed after removing the random body movement components, thus enabling reliable and robust vital-signs parameter estimation.

Abstract: A resonator for a vehicle heart rate detection device is disclosed. The resonator includes a chamber having a front wall and a sidewall extending circumferentially around the front wall, and the sidewall defines a rear opening opposite the front wall. A lid is secured over the rear opening, and the lid, the front wall, and the sidewall define a cavity within an interior of the chamber. A neck extends from the front wall of the resonator and defines a front opening, and a microphone is positioned within the cavity that records vibrations entering the cavity via the front opening. The cavity is filled at least partially with a first material and at least partially with a second material, and the cavity amplifies the vibrations within a target range frequency.

Abstract: According to certain aspects, a computer-implemented method for operating an autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicle may be provided. With the customer's permission, an identity of a vehicle operator may be identified and a vehicle operator profile may be retrieved. Operating data regarding autonomous operation features operating the vehicle may be received from vehicle-mounted sensors. When a request to disable an autonomous feature is received, a risk level for the autonomous feature is determined and compared with a driver behavior setting for the autonomous feature stored in the vehicle operator profile. Based upon the risk level comparison, the autonomous vehicle retains control of vehicle or the autonomous feature is disengaged depending upon which is the safer driver—the autonomous vehicle or the vehicle human occupant. As a result, unsafe disengagement of self-driving functionality for autonomous vehicles may be alleviated. Insurance discounts may be provided for autonomous vehicles having this safety functionality.
