摘要: Disclosed are systems and methods for detecting a skimmer located proximate a card reader of a self-service terminal (SST). The systems and methods may include obtaining a baseline measurement for a plurality of sensors located proximate the card reader and activating a subset of the plurality of sensors. A signal may be received from each of the subset of the plurality of sensors that were activated. When the signal from each of the subset of the plurality of sensors deviate from the baseline measurement by a predetermined threshold, a determination may be made that the skimmer is proximate the card reader. In response to determining that the skimmer is located proximate the card reader, the self-service terminal may be disabled.

摘要: A computer-implemented method includes: receiving by a skimming prevention system operatively coupled to a machine, a plurality of sound data from a plurality of corresponding sound sensors operatively coupled to the machine; identifying by the skimming prevention system, a type of user action input of the machine; retrieving by the skimming prevention system from a storage system operatively coupled to the machine, a baseline acoustic signature associated with the machine and corresponding to the type of user action input; comparing by the skimming prevention system, the received plurality of sound data to the baseline acoustic signature associated with the machine and corresponding to the type of user action input; and in response to a determination that the compared plurality of sound data and the baseline acoustic signature differ more than a predetermined threshold, triggering by the skimming prevention system, an execution/alert mode of the machine.

摘要: A banking system operates responsive to data read from data bearing records. The system includes an automated banking machine comprising a card reader. The card reader includes a movable read head that can read card data along a magnetic stripe of a card that was inserted long-edge first. The card reader includes a card entry gate. The gate is opened for a card that is determined to be properly oriented for data reading. The card reader can encrypt card data, including account data. The machine also includes a PIN keypad. The card reader can send encrypted card data to the keypad. The keypad can decipher the encrypted card data. The keypad can encrypt both deciphered card data and a received user PIN. The card data and the PIN are usable by the machine to authorize a user to carry out a financial transfer involving the account.

Preferably the sensor system is a sensor arrangement comprising a plurality of linearly extending sensor elements that extend in a first direction (X) or a second direction (Y) in relation to the card (11) retracted into the intake compartment (13). Thereby it can be effectively determined whether a retracted card is a genuine card of if a manipulation is present that targets the inside of the card reading device.

In one aspect, the disclosed embodiments include a system for detecting ATM skimmers including a memory storing instructions and one or more processors that execute the instructions to perform one or more operations for detecting ATM skimmers. The operations may include, for example, receiving radio frequency (RF) signal data corresponding to one or more RF signals detected by an antenna located within communication range of the ATM. The operations may also include determining one or more unidentified RF signals of the detected ATM RF signals that differ from one or more baseline RF signals. The operations may also include determining whether the one or more unidentified RF signals are present for a predetermined period of time, and determining whether a skimmer is present at the ATM based on a determination that the one or more unidentified RF signals are present for the predetermined period of time.

摘要: Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) allow banking customers to conveniently make certain financial transactions. Typically, customers access ATMs through the use of an electronically encoded ATM-card with a magnetic strip or microchip that encodes customer account information. As a security measure, accessing a bank account at an ATM typically requires a personal identification number (PIN) that must be entered into the ATM key pad in order to initiate a transaction. Electronic devices, known as skimming devices, are capable of collecting bank account and PIN information unbeknownst to ATM customers. Skimming devices are applied onto, near or over an ATM card readers, and are often indistinguishable from the ATM card reader. When an ATM user attempts to access their bank account, the skimming devices record their bank account and PIN information. Armed with the bank account and PIN information, thieves are able to illegally access customer accounts and defraud banks. The anti-skimming device of the present invention offers an elegant approach to prevent illegal access to sensitive customer account information. Applying the anti-skimming device of the instant invention functions to ATMs helps to prevent illegal collection of account and PIN information from unsuspecting bank customers.
