In one or more embodiments, the emergency lighting system comprises a plurality of emergency lighting units capable of conducting one or more tests and reporting their operating condition as test results. Emergency lighting units having an undesirable operating condition can then be readily identified and addressed.

The present disclosure generally relates to the field of fire alarms. The teachings thereof may be embodied in a strobe notification appliance having: a boost circuit connected to an input voltage; an energy storage circuit charged by the boost circuit; a drive circuit generating a drive current; an LED circuit with at least one LED element; a first sampling circuit collecting an overall voltage drop of all the LED elements; and a control circuit configured to adjust the drive circuit to supply a working current during an alarming stage and supply a detection current during a detection stage. The detection current is lower than the working current and thereby light energy produced by the LED elements during the detection stage is lower than alarming light energy produced during the alarming stage. During the detection stage, the control circuit determines whether the LED circuit works normally based on the collected overall voltage drop.

An apparatus and method of up-dating an existing alarm monitoring system control panel having installed wire loops, with detectors coupled thereto, and installed end-of-line resistors. Upon removal of the existing control panel, the loops are coupled to an up-graded control panel having an adjustable loop interface. The existing loops can be coupled to the adjustable loop interface. The interface automatically determines operating loop voltages in view of existing end-of-line resistors. Detectors on the loops can be read without any changes needed to end-of-line resistor values. Determined operating loop voltages can be digitized and stored in the up-graded control panel for subsequent use in monitoring loop operating characteristics.

The sound test can verify that the audible sources such as the alarm and speaker operate at the requisite loudness and frequencies. In addition, the sound test can be self-administered in that it does not require the presence of a person to initiate or verify that the audible sources are functioning properly.

An emergency warning system includes a plurality of emergency annunciators for installation in a physical zone, a zone controller and a master controller. Each emergency annunciator is operable to independently and periodically perform a self-test for verifying its capacity to annunciate an emergency and to transmit a report of the self-test result. The zone controller is operable to receive the reports from each emergency annunciator and generate and transmit a zone report representing a consolidation of the received reports. The zone controller can also transmit an activation command to the emergency annunciators based on a received zone activation command. A master controller is operable to receive the zone report and generate therefrom a user notification indicative of the self-test results as well as to transmit the zone activation command in response to a trigger condition. The system may be easily installable through addition of the above components to an existing computer networking infrastructure.
