Abstract:
Disclosed are a method and apparatus for a data storage library comprising a first and second drive, a first and second mobile medium, a first and second partition wherein the first partition comprises the first drive and the first mobile medium and the second partition comprises the second drive and the second mobile medium, and a combination bridge controller device. The combination bridge controller device is configurable to control first communication traffic between at least a first client and the first partition wherein the first communication traffic can comprise a first data package. The combination bridge controller device is further configurable to optionally encrypt the first data package for storage on the first mobile medium when the first mobile medium is in cooperation with the first drive.
Abstract:
A content providing device serving as a server for executing content providing processing as to a client, includes: a data processing unit for executing content providing processing in response to a content request from the client; wherein the data processing unit receives a disc recorded identifier for identifying a disc or content recorded in the mounted disc of the client, and the identification information of at least either the device identifier of a device on the client side, or the user identifier of a user on the client side, from the client, accumulates the history information of the disc recorded identifier received from the client in a management database in increments of devices or users, and analyzes the user's preference on the client side to provide a content adapted to the user's preference. Thus, content which interests a user or commercial content can be selectively provided to the user.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for enabling a licensed end user to record digital data as described is particularly useful to the music industry as it enables them to make audio data available over the internet but to retain control of the uses to which that audio data can be put. Thus, upon completing a financial transaction to pay for the required audio tracks, the end user is enabled to download and decrypt encrypted music tracks and to play them on the end user's personal computer. The end user can also be allowed to burn a CD including the downloaded music tracks. However, the end user is only enabled to decrypt and record the music tracks onto the CD if the music tracks are recorded together with copy protection.

Abstract:
A digital data file encryption system and method where digital data encrypted to a high level and an encryption key are received and stored in a computer. The stored, encrypted digital data is decrypted on the basis of the encryption key and stored in a buffer of a predetermined size. Output digital data from the buffer is reencrypted to a low level of encryption and downloaded to a digital data playing device or a data storage medium. Therefore, a digital audio or video data file is prevented from being diverted in unencrypted form from a computer communication network when it is transmitted to a personal computer through the computer communication network and, in turn, downloaded to the digital data playing device. Further, the digital data playing device is prevented from rising in cost due to the use of simple encryption for data downloaded to the playing device.
Abstract:
According to an embodiment, the invention provides a method for decrypting content, the comprising: receiving the content without a source encryption key from a source device connected to the electric reproducing device, the content having been encrypted with the source encryption key in the source device; performing a first addition operation by using a first device internal key and an ID, the first device internal key being associated with the electric reproducing device; generating a device encryption key based on an output of the first addition operation and a second device internal key by using a predetermined encryption algorithm, wherein the second device internal key is associated with the electric reproducing device; decrypting the content using the device encryption key; decoding the decrypted content; and outputting the decoded content.
Abstract:
A system and method for providing Digital Rights Management (DRM) using multiple watermarks are disclosed. In one embodiment, upon purchase of a digital asset, a copy of the digital asset that is watermarked with a content specific watermark and a user, or purchaser, specific watermark and a digital certificate including content specific watermark information and user specific watermark information corresponding to the watermarks in the copy of the digital asset are generated. The copy of the digital asset and the digital certificate are provided to the user. Thereafter, access to the copy of the digital asset is controlled based on a comparison of the watermarks in the copy of the digital asset and the watermark information in the digital certificate.
Abstract:
The presently claimed invention relate generally to portable audio devices. One claim recites a method including: receiving audio content data through an interface of a portable personal digital device capable of playing audio; storing the received audio content data in electronic memory; audibly rendering said audio content data; utilizing an electronic processor, counting a number of plays of the received audio content data; and displaying the number of plays of the received audio content data to a user of the portable personal digital device. Of course additional claims and combination are provided as well.
Abstract:
A device and method for decrypting digital contents are discussed. According to an embodiment, a method for decrypting digital content at a target device, includes receiving the digital content without a source encryption key from a source device connected to the target device, the digital content having been encrypted with the source encryption key in the source device, wherein the source device is configured to perform an authenticating operation with the target device by using an identifier (ID) associated with at least one of the target device and a storage medium of the target device; performing a first addition operation by using a first target internal key and the ID; generating a target encryption key based on an output of the first addition operation and a second target internal key by using a predetermined encryption algorithm; and decrypting the encrypted digital content using the target encryption key.
