摘要: A molten fuel reactor includes a reactor core having substantially a right-circular cylinder shape with a longitudinal axis. At least one inlet is configured to channel fuel salt into the reactor core. At least one outlet is configured to channel fuel salt out of the reactor core, and the inlet and outlet at least partially define a flow loop of fuel salt with respect to the reactor core. An orifice ring plate is disposed within the reactor core and proximate the at least one inlet. The orifice ring plate is configured to condition a flow of fuel salt entering the reactor core from the at least one inlet. The orifice ring plate extends circumferentially about the longitudinal axis and has a height defined in a direction along the longitudinal axis. The orifice ring plate includes a plurality of apertures configured to allow the flow of fuel salt therethrough.

摘要: A nuclear reactor controlled by moving a liquid fuel between a reservoir and chambers in the core is provided. No pumps or moving parts within the reactor vessel are needed to move the fuel. The control system moves the liquid fuel between the core and the reservoir by moving a separate control gas. It can monitor the internal state of the core through the control connections. The fuel chamber is shaped so that evolved gases escape the core and can be collected at the control connections. The core reverts to a safe state on power failure.

摘要: A nuclear reactor includes a plurality of mechanisms (11) that drive the contact members (9) that control the reactivity, of the core. Each mechanism includes a driving member (21) including a driving part (23) forming one out of a screw or a nut, a member (27) for applying a rotary torque of the rotor (19) to the driving member (21), a driven member (29) translationally connected to one of the control members (9) and including the other out of screw and a nut; and a member (33) that is selectively mobile between a position of blocking the driving member (21) and a position of releasing the driving member (21). In each drive mechanism (11), the motor (15) is fully immersed in the primary coolant inside the vessel (3); the rotor (19) has a central passage (35), the member for applying the rotary torque (27) being situated in or near the central passage (35); the driving member (21) includes a connecting part (37) engaged in the central passage (35) and collaborating with the member for applying the rotary torque (27), the connecting part (37) being free to effect a translational movement inside the central passage (35) with respect to the rotor (19) when the or each blocking member (33) is in the releasing position.

摘要: Control rod drives include linearly-moveable control elements inside an isolation barrier. Control rod drives move the control element through secured magnetic elements subject to magnetic fields. Induction coils may generate magnetic fields and be moveable across a full stroke length of the control element in the reactor. A motor may spin a linear screw to move the induction coils on a vertical travel nut. A control rod assembly may house the magnetic elements and directly, removably join to the control element. The control rod assembly may lock with magnetic overtravel latches inside the isolation barrier to maintain an overtravel position. Overtravel release coils outside the isolation barrier may release the latches to leave the overtravel position. Operation includes moving the induction coils with a linear screw to drive the control element to desired insertion points, including full insertion by gravity following de-energization. No direct connection may penetrate the isolation barrier.

摘要: A riser cone has a lower end sized to engage a cylindrical lower riser section of a nuclear reactor and an upper end sized to engage a cylindrical upper riser section of the nuclear reactor. The riser cone defines a compression sealing ring that is compressed between the lower riser section and the upper riser section in the assembled nuclear reactor. In some embodiments the riser cone comprises: a lower element defining the lower end of the riser cone; an upper element defining the upper end of the riser cone; and a compliance spring compressed between the lower element and the upper element. In some embodiments the riser cone comprises a frustoconical compression sealing ring accommodating a reduced diameter of the upper riser section as compared with the diameter of the lower riser section.

摘要: An annulus spacer for a fuel channel assembly of a nuclear reactor, and method of manufacturing an annulus spacer. The fuel channel assembly includes a calandria tube and a pressure tube positioned at least partially within the calandria tube. The annulus spacer includes a garter spring configured to surround a portion of the pressure tube to maintain a gap between the calandria tube and the pressure tube. A girdle wire is positioned substantially within the garter spring and configured to form a loop around the pressure tube. The girdle wire includes a first segment and a second segment that overlaps the first segment to form an overlap, the overlap extending between approximately 45 degrees and approximately 135 degrees to reduce the possibility of girdle wire twisting.

摘要: A pressurized water reactor vessel having a flow skirt formed from a perforated cylinder structure supported in the lower reactor vessel head at the outlet of the downcomer annulus, that channels the coolant flow through flow holes in the wall of the cylinder structure. The flow skirt is supported at a plurality of circumferentially spaced locations on the lower reactor vessel head that are not equally spaced or vertically aligned with the core barrel attachment points, and the flow skirt employs a unique arrangement of hole patterns that assure a substantially balanced pressure and flow of the coolant over the entire underside of the lower core support plate.

摘要: A reactor vessel includes a plenum and a reactor core with first and second sets of channels. A blanket salt flows through the first set of channels, and a fuel salt flows through the second set of channels. The plenum receives the blanket salt from the first set of channels. The blanket salt provides a breed-stock for a fission reaction in the fuel salt and transfers heat generated by the fission reaction without mixing with the fuel salt.
